Red face My first G ever, have some questions.

Hi guys!

I've been posting here for a bit now, but I never introduced myself, so here we go...

A couple of weeks ago I bought an '08 G37 journey with a rebuilt title [mild front end damage] from a local guy for 18k. I did as much research to the car before I bought it and everything seemed well, the guy had a collision shop replace all the major damaged parts and repainted the car and added Tien lowered springs & black out rims.

This was my first rebuilt title car, and as exceptical as I was, I bit the bullet and went ahead and got it, so far I've been driving the car a lot and everything seems/feels great.

I want to start adding performance parts for it, but I dont know if I should start trowing money on this car, due to its title. Since it will be sold later in the distant future.

So far on my list is:
Exhaust
Audio
break system

that will probably set me back ~2k in total, so do you guys think it could a decent investment? since I will try to get some of my money back once I sell this car.

This is her

First rule:

No car is an investment. No aftermarket part is an investment. You will lose money on everything you add to the car and the car in general. Also the Rebuild title is scary to a lot of people; myself included.

Now if you will enjoy it during the time you have it then do it. Its all about if you like it or not. And if you find worth in the parts being on the car while you own it then I see no reason not to .

Also never dealt with a rebuild title. Seems way too scary to do. But I guess if you can't afford a G at normal price and you've done your research then congratz man! looks clean from the 3 pictures

Welcome to the forum!!

Congrats and good luck!
As for your mods....break or brake system? Looks like you already have the Akebonos on your coupe so why would you want to change them?
Go ahead and Knock yourself out on the mods. You can always part out later when you're ready to sell the car.

You cold dump $20K into this car and it will still have a salvage title. What that means is that if you plan to sell it down the road, no matter how much you spend to try to improve its resale value, it's never going to be worth more, only less. Unless you get lucky and find a sucker, I mean buyer, who doesn't care about that. It's possible. But most consumers will not even consider buying it, and most who will consider buying a salvage title vehicle are going to be expecting a great deal.

Assuming that you keep it for any length of time and not try to flip it immediately, you will sell this car for less than you bought it for. Most of the time you will come out ahead by selling any performance parts you added and returning it to stock before selling it. Often they decrease resale value.

True indeed!! As a buyer, a stock vehicle is much more preferred than one [significantly] modified. Modifications typically imply racing, abuse, hard driving.

I still kick myself for not pulling off the exhaust and power commander/ignition module parts off the bike before selling it. They didn't help me sell the bike any quicker or get a better price. Sold alone, the pieces would of easily netted $600 or more. And no, I didn't race or abuse the bike, but I hated the weak low end.
