NEWBIE...Finally Registered after months of looking around on this site.
Hello Everyone,
I own a 2008 G37S Coupe (Black) 6MT and ive been on this site from time to time now looking at DIY's and finally im registered. Ive owned my G for about a year now and I already have a few mods. Planning to do more but right now this is what I have:
Ok guys...Any suggestions on how I can make my stillen exhaust a little louder without test pipes? Im looking at some berk hfc but I feel it may not make much of a difference. It sounds too much like stock to me and thats not what I was expecting when I brought the system. I wanted louder but not annoying with a lot of drone. Ive only had the exhaust on the car for about 200 miles though so maybe I haven't given it enough time to be broken in. I dont know how long it normally takes to break a brand new exhaust system in. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Welcome.
I had started with the Stillen exhaust and the Gen 1 intakes. I upgraded to Gen 3 intakes, and it made it slightly more aggressive sounding. The Stillen exhaust is probably the closest exhaust to the stock sound, and I think that is what Stillen were going for. Other than test pipes or high flow cats, you could go with a cold air intake like the Gen 3 or even try out headers (although I've heard there aren't many gains to be made with headers).
I wanted a more aggressive sound so I went with a Fast Intentions set up, and it was perfect for what I was looking for.

Welcome fellow N00b
Aside from what you already know, I don't really think there is a way to get "more sound" out of your Stillen exhaust. If you don't like it, your best bet is probably to sell it and get another. My exhaust is still stock, but I have a desire for something aftermarket too. I've been trolling youtube for every and any video with exhaust trying to find one with the pitch that I want. Obviously, there's only so much I can gather from vids due to the variance in quality, but that's the only available source until meets start up again.
Good news: There are a lot of great exhausts for our cars. Among them there is one that sounds just like you want.
Bad news: There are a lot of great exhausts for our cars. Makes it that much harder to find the "exact" one.
Whether its going with HFCs, test pipes, or getting a new exhaust setup, I hope you get that sound you want!

Long tubes headers aren't worth it if you ask me (labor's a b*tch). Get yourself some test pipes (resonated for less rasp). I'd also switch to Gen 3 intakes. They scream like crazy at high revs

Thanks guys...I think i may start with hfc and see how that changes the exhaust note before I decide to possibly swap the whole cat-back. I will like to get test pipes but of course they are illegal and I do not want to have to swap em out every time its time for a state inspection. Ok this may be a stupid question but here we go...Does anyone know if any hfc produce a louder note than another? Like does the fast intentions hfc produce more sound than stillen or berk, or vice versa? I had berks on my G35 coupe w/ stock exhaust and it increased in some but if one produce more sound than another and also with good quality, I will go with that. Thanks guys
