Question Is Intelligent AWD ineffective above a certain speed?

I am thinking about purchasing an AWD sedan and am looking at the G37X AWD along with a Subaru 3.6R Limited. A sales rep at the local Infiniti dealership said that about about 30 mph the Intelligent AWD reverts to RWD only. This doesn't sound right as it would mean if, for example, you were going 50 mph up a hill and your rear wheels started to slip you would have to drop to 30 mph before the front wheels would assist with traction.

Can anyone provide an answer as to whether there is a speed point beyond which the Intelligent AWD system is RWD only?

The Subaru is full time AWD with variable proportion of front vs rear traction based on various factors.

Thanks.

The salesman is basically right but you're making some incorrect assumptions.

Upon initial acceleration power goes to all for wheels. Assuming there is no slippage then the car reverts to RWD. However, if there is slippage the power is shifted to the front wheels until traction is regained then it goes back to RWD.

Thanks for your prompt reply.

So are you saying that if there is slippage detected at pretty well ANY speed (not just below a certain value) power will shift to the front wheels?

Good to know -- I also heard the same knowledge from the dealership, "above 40mph, it converts to 100% RWD if there is no slippage"
