I don't know how many folks go from 335i to G37, but I shopped and compared 335i and I decided that financially I was better able to afford G37.

But I think I would have say you are crazy.. haha. Since you have more experience with driving both cars, can you tell us what your drive experience with both cars?

I went from a modded 2002 E46 M3 (coilovers, brembos, volks...) to a 09 G37S coupe even though I tried to like the 335 and the M3 but I just couldn't live with the interior... If the 335 came with the interior of the G I would have bought it

The M is much more of a drivers car but now that I don't track anymore and if you're caught doing anything over 50KPH your car is impounded and licence suspended I fet the G was a better fit for me.

Maybe I'm getting too old...

your first one looked hawtt!! Huge fan of the 335 sedans!

Youll have more fun with a g37s tt straight from GTM. Youll be walking 335i'S!

I'd have to say the Bmw is more of a drivers car. Steering is tighter and raw? I like the interior of the G37 but the Nav is worse, preventing you from doing things. The computers on both cars act differently, on the 335 the car would brake for you if you go into a turn too fast/hard, while still giving power if you push down on the pedal. On the G37, it feels like the car goes into the turn without the computer doing much in the way of assisting besides cutting off all power for a second or two.

One of the biggest things I miss is the torq, the G37 seems to have none compared to the 335 in stock form. The power band of the G37 does make up for that, giving that extra fun factor.

For some reason I feel better knowing that both wheels are planted and doing work rather than one with the 335.

As for braking, the feel on the G37 is softer than the 335. Meaning you have to apply more pressure to get the same amount of stopping power compared to the 335.

^^ Pretty accurate.

The BMW has a better chassis, leading to the 'sharper' feel from inputs to the car.

VSA on the G37 is more advanced than the DSC on the 335. The DSC basically only has "on" and "off", where as the VSA on the G37 can modulate individual brakes at varying levels to work transparently. It can also reduce power in 5% increments, where as DSC can only go in big steps. The VSA is likely helping you out a lot more than you realize. A clear indication that VSA is helping a lot is if you go through one axle's pads significantly before the others'. With no VSA interaction, your pads should go at nearly the same time.

The VLSD is fairly useless, as its reactionary rather than preventative. It is also an open diff by the time your warranty is gone; it is the nature of a VLSD.

Torque is nice, but area under the hp curve is what ultimately matters. E.g. a s2k vs EvoX. The EvoX feels faster. Twice as fast. From a roll, the s2k will win every time, stock for stock.

I still think a VQ engine has more potential than a N54. Even if you upgrade the turbo's on the Bimmer, a proper setup such as a GTM kit still has more upgrade and power potential. Plus, the 370Z has the same engine, so you can only imagine the aftermarket support you get.

Interesting thread. It's cool to hear some insight from people who've owned both cars.

If he got the G because it's a better "full package" then I will agree with him, but if he bought it for performance, then I'm sorry to say he downgraded.
You make a valid point.

You hit the nail on the head. If our cars were about 400 lbs lighter maybe I wouldn't complain as much, but being the fat asses we are , it'd be nice to have some more torque.

I agree that the nav is more restrictive, but I think as far as functionality, G37 wins. Putting in an address is so freakin easy compared to all other navs I've used. My biggest gripe w/ BMW is their lack of touch screen...I really really really hate the iDrive ****.

Lose the luxury and lose 400 lbs. Seriously.

It would be like an extended wheelbase 370z.

yeah...i test drove both (335 and g37) before i ultimately decided on the G...but i have to say...i went to bed dreaming about the 335 torque!!! in the end, price and creature comforts won out. (i also prefer the look of the G over the 335)

Yeah but who keeps an Evo stock? lol. Just joking, I get your point.
