Philips 6000K HID Bulbs!!

So finally got these bulbs installed today (Thanks Puria!). We put in one side and turned them on and noticed a noticeable blue/purple different with the 6000K opposed to the stocks. I went out to dinner tonight and took my car and WOW. 1. I really love the look of them but 2. I really think they improve the night time driving. I'll be honest I got them originally for the looks of the car and for $200 and part of the group buy I thought it was pretty good but driving is really improved.

There's a lot more bluish/purplish hue when driving and the road really looks lit well. I think the G should have come stock with these bulbs.

To give you an idea on what they look like, when you turn on your stock HID's and they look bluish and then turn white, these philips just look like that all the time.

Was a good weekend after getting the springs, headlights, clearance strips and Hawk pads in!

Puria's still riding on the stock HID I think! Jesus has the 8000K which means they are more purple but they say the light output is really poor so it makes driving conditions tough but I guess Jesus would have to tell you. 6000's arent as purple but more bluish. I noticed an improvement though with driving.

Yeah general concensus is that 6k is ideal - the most blue-ish white without losing too much useful brightness. Plus less likely to get pulled by a cop than with 8k which starts to look too much like ricer lights to cops so they will try to ticket you for them.

haha, I got a repair order for my 6k's.. Had to go to the DMV and show them that I replaced them with the stocks. Put them back on after the DMV tho hehe

actually that information is incorrect because if you look at the Kelvin scale you got purple right around 6000k and more blue around 7500 and up. Light output is actually more, and for poor driving conditions as with any HID equipped car you have the extra set of fog lights (this is because most HID's are above 4000K and anything above that number dissipates under bad weather conditions)

actually jesus you got it wrong. The higher up on the kelvin scale, the less light output.

Here's a post from another thread i copied from WRAH and a few other lighting experts on this board. In addition any other site you go to will tell you the same thing > the K rating = < light output...

"You're shifting farther down the spectrum, and your eyes can't see blue/purple as well. Also you are tricking yourself into thinking 6000k or 8000k is brighter, your eye is just picking up more glare. When it rains or is foggy the light is scattering all over the place, glaring others and not reflecting back to your eyes.

3800k~4300k are full color spectrum, where 6000k+ HID are filtering out visible light.

If people really want blue looking lights they should get projectors and 4300k HID bulbs, and get a blue/purple cut-off."

Its physics!! higher the Kelvin rating, the lower hte light output, your seeing glare and your eyes are translating that glare to more light....

Our eyes actually start to fatigue when exposed to blue/purple light, this is another reason you dont see too many OEM interior bulbs that are tooo blue or purple. You will see alot of whites/yellows. Since they are shorter and on the opposite end of the spectrum they dont fatigue the eyes as much and therefore you can drive longer w/o the strain.

Yeah I had read the same posts. To me it looks better at night though. To me its a nice compromise and I shouldnt get hassled by the cops. I dunno why Jee did. Never heard of anyone getting pulled over with 6000K.

Yea, not sure how Jim ended up getting a repair for HID color. I can understand if it was a Honda, but Infiniti comes with HID. Looking at 6000K, you probably can't notice it or isn't that obvious. Older TL, which have really burnt out HID are extremely purple, doubt any of them ever get a repair order for. Just another cop on a mission to save the world, one HID at a time.
