High Perfomance Driving Education (HDPE)
For those intrested in REALLY learing how to handle their car properly - I can highly recommend Bill Scott Racing (BSR) at Summit Point Raceway. Summit Point is just over the border into West Virgina, about 70 Miles from DC.

I would recommend you start with the Accident Avoidance Course. It's $295, but well worth it. You drive BSR's cars so you can really thrash them. In fact they expect you to.
You can follow this course with something called Friday at The Track ($225). You drive your own vehicle for this course of instruction.
Both of these courses consist of some classroom time, then track time with an instructor.
If you do well in the Friday at The Track course, they will certify you for "Seat Time." Seat Time is track time with no instruction. Just b@lls out track driving on your own. (Seat Time is $200 per car - multiple certified drivers per car allowed)
No, I'm not related to these guys in any way. I've just taken every one of their courses over the years (except the police training), so I know firsthand how good they are.

No - these aren't race driving classes - more like vehicle dynamics, vehicle control in skids, accidence avoidance, controlled high speed driving, skid pad. That sort of stuff.
