G35 Coupe 6MT howling/high pitched noise

I have had my 05 6MT for 3 weeks now and its starting to make a whining/high pitched howling noise when in neutral during deceleration, or while changing gears.

Does anyone have any clue what it is?
I have 1900 miles on the car now and have rarely challenged the car and pretty much followed breakin to the T with the exception of a couple times, but no redline.

I have read a possible related story where a "glazed" clutch and a bad flywheel was to blame... *shrugs*

thanks

Since the noise is present when in neutral, it's not likely to be the clutch, since there is no stress on the clutch assembly when in neutral. A whining noise is normal during deceleration since the helical gears are loaded on the oposite side of the teeth than during normal acceleration. What puzles me is that the noise is present during shifting as you say. It could be several things. Low gearbox fluid level or bad input shaft bearing comes to mind. I suggest to take it to the dealer and have them check it out. Sorry I can't be of more help, but whatever I say is speculation on my part.

I'd also think it wouldnt be the clutch as when the car is in neutral you still hear the same sound.

Could it be the throwout bearing? I don't know.

I read the same thing about it possibly being the throw out bearing. I am not sure exactly how it could be, but I really hope its not a huge issue for me to drive it for a week until I can get it into the shop.

alright, mbq was right.... I called the service dept and they said it is likely the throwout bearing and want to take a listen so that they can make sure.

I feel better now heh.
