Tail of the Dragon: Aug 13th - 16th 2007
Every year... I try to have a drive planned thats extra special. Previous year we did the "IS300 Cruise" that a few of us went on. The drive was described as a "no novices allowed event." This year I want to hit up Tail of the Dragon. You don't know what Tail of the Dragon is???
here's a little taste:

It's the Tenn, NC border. I'd love to go, but personally would want to meet more of you guys first. It's not a road to mess around on and I would have to feel confident in other driver's abilities. As amazing as it is, it should be respected.

Deals Gap (tail of the Dragon), is an awsome Rd. 317 turns in 11 miles, and about 3000 foot elevation change as well. Definitely not for the faint of heart. I have been there a couple of times on the bikes, its awsome. Most of the time the weekends are too crowded, end up with a bunch Cruisers running 20 mph so they don'r rip their floorboards off, and a bunch squids, and ricers that can't keep their bikes cars inside the lines.

to clarify, there will be ABSOLUTELY NO PUSHING, NO SPEEDING AND ABSOLUTELY NO INSANE DRIVING. i'm sure nobody has any interest in getting tickets, crashing or worse. we will obey traffic laws and just CRUISE. this is not for people to try to prove that they've got *****. if you have some initial d fantasies you want to fulfill, then you are NOT WELCOME because i don't want my life or anyone else's safety even remotely risked by some jackass. do it on your own terms and without a group.
when we head out, we will average 10mph above the limit via cruise control. i'm not interested in getting everyone pulled over due to the actions of a few. if you want to hit 100+mph, etc. to get there, head out at a different time than the rest of us and just meet us down there.

on the 9th we will head up to chattanooga in the morning to have lunch at a barbecue/soul food joint i know. it's 2 hours from deal's gap and from there we will head home.
lodging shouldn't be much of a problem considering the days we go... if you guys want to find your own lodging, that's fine. otherwise lek or i will find some local lodging info and post it.

Check out the "Deals gap motorcycle resort". It's right at the beginning of deals gap. Nothing fancy, each room has a double bed, and couple of bunk beds, bathroom, with shower, small frig, and microwave. They also have a restraunt. Set up mostly for bikes, but plenty of parking fo cars asa well. Reasonably priced.
