M3 full engine specs

http://www.automobilemag.com/auto_sh...3_2008_bmw_m3/
simply amazing, 420hp from a 4.0L V8, once again well over 100hp / liter of displacement.

note it has less torque than the 335, however it should still be much faster even vs the modded version running Vishnu's custom ECU map. especially once it gets moving.

unforuantely, this also means the aftermarket wont be able to extract much of anything. its going to be worse than our cars.

..WOW! what a Sweet Azz motor!! The lines on that chart are very ideal for what I think of as a drivers dream. Though the torque is low (relatively) you get it all early and hold on to it for a good while. At the same time, the hp curve just keeps going and going. That is going to be one spectacular driving experience!

what is the torque number on the audi? (just curious)

Good find Terry. Cant wait to see track times etc...

Excellent Ride.

So it's going to be lighter and with more HP? It's too bad they did away with the torque. The looks aren't there but it does have performance. When the previous E46 generation M3s came out, everyone was saying the engine was too fine tuned to get more power. A few years later, a good number of them are pushing 400-600hp with kits. I'm sure the same will be done to this one.

I dunno man. They are squeezing a significant amount of hp out of a 4 liter V8. Of course just speculating, I dont think any bolt-ons are going to do any wonders for it. As for a piggyback or ecu, I could only see that giving and taking. *shrugs*

we are talking about getting more power without having to break the bank.

with enough money you can make any car make any amount of power you want.
E46 M3 is notoriously hard to mod, those 400-600hp cars you are talking about are probably running on rebuilt internals, bored/stroked out cylinders or turbos.
they probably spent a ridiculous amount of money to get that kinda power.

and theres not much to complain about the torque, its a nice and flat torque curve, meaning you get good torque in the low RMPs, once the car starts moving, power matters a lot more.

420HP From V8???? While new G35 produced 330HP from V6. What would an estimate MPG be on the V8 420HP?

Not sure what kind of comparison your making , but that estimated 330 hp is coming from a 3.7 liter V6 while the 420 hp is coming from a 4.0 liter V8. More cylinders, true, but the displacement difference isn't huge. the Infiniti isnt even getting 100 hp per liter while the M3 is getting more.

sorry if I took your comparison the wrong way.

on your second note, I am curious about the gas mileage also, but for what it's outputting, (depending on what you consider alright) I don't see it likely being horrible.

Cant be worse than the Audi RS 4
Consumption (Urban) 14 mpg
Consumption (Extra-urban) 20 mpg
Consumption (Combined) 17 mpg

If that 17 mpg combined is anything near accurate, Im not doing much better in my G now

Good analysis and the comparison was correct. Also if it is at 17MPG, she'll be selling like candy.
