Im sorry I didnt see your post earlier man. Components are great. I thought you were gonna get the PC connector? I think that would maximize the potential of your video, but at this point, I dont really know if you could tell the difference between the two.

How much were those suckers??

i read that MS is planing on incorporating HDMI on the xbox next year to match up vs ps3. i read that only HDMI is capable of supporting 1080p output? currently xbox360's true highest resolution is 720p. it does not do 1080i naturally but instead when the Xbox 360 outputs 1080i using the HD component cable, it only does the old 540p-upconvert-to-1080i trick. for my xbox360 since im too poor to get a hd tv, i just use the vga hd cable, it looks great on the pc monitor at 1024x1208 but the image dosnt cover the whole screen

Is that how MS really gets down?? that sucks man. Why would they even give the option of 1080p if its not truly doing so? I was guessing it could output 1080p with the vga cable, but im not sure. I know the PS3 only outputs a true 1080p signal over HDMI. I had to drop 60 bucks for 3ft of HDMI with gold connectors etc...

Tooo High!!

the highest video mode for the xbox360 with any type of connection is 1080i via the 540p unconvert to 1080i trick. the highest true natural resolution of xbox360 is 720p. the general consensus ive read among video game editorials suggest 720p > 1080i for video games.

i think it takes a lot more processing power overhead to output at 1080p vs 1080i theoratically requiring double the data rate since you are drawing twice numbers of pixels per frame. in 1080i you are looking at every other line being filled per frame thus its never as smooth as progressive scan especially in games with fast moving objects.

yeah, 720p is what you want to be at.

no games are rendered in 1080p, so even if you could output in that mode it wouldn't be true 1080p, most likely upscaled

xbox360 games are required to support 720p, only a few actually even supports 1080i. as for 1080p, xbox360 cant do it, only a few ps3 games supports it currently with more and more futures games taking advantage of it down the pipe. for now most ps3 games are rendered in 720p also, including reistence: fall of man.

I believe what you're saying Terry, but why did MS send out updates for the 360 allowing 1080p output now? Did you get that update? I have mine set to 1080p but know that its not gonna happen through components. Im guessing it may work through the vga input?? *shrugs*

the update for 1080p is for the HD-DVD ROM hi def movie peripheral support. the games them selves have to be coded accordingly in order to support 1080p, and no you cannot get 1080p via VGA HD cable, which is what I use, it goes up to 1080i for VGA also on the xbox360.

*furthermore, the xbox360's video card seems to be limited in its capabilities since it can not do 1080i naturally. chances are, it wont be able to do 1080p naturally either. imo the best looking resolution to play xbox360 in is 720p. if they do incorporate HDMI in future xbox360s, we are kinda stuck with our old ones that dosnt have it. its not just a simple matter of adding a HDMI connection, they have to soup of the video card too
