Techniques for launching?
I've been running some 1/4's lately (7AT) and I'm looking for launch tips for the AT Sedan. Any best of breed techniques? Any body out there running 13.8's or lower have any good tips? Are best times recorded in DS, or shift it yourself? I used to have a G8 and the DS mode was by far the fastest.

I disagree. I come from an 6AT muscle car with very specific launch techniques - brake torquing to certain RPM's, VDC off, sport shift mode vs self shift, how to pull it back in to third before you hit the 100's in a 1/4 mile, etc. All kinds of useful stuff. You're probably just pissed that you have (a) a weaker engine (b) a bunch of am crap just to get you up to speed with the 3.7 stock. How much torque do you LOSE with the stillens and CF?

(a) I dont know if you heard yet, but all G37s have same engines
(b) I am happy (dyno happy to be precise) with my bunch of crap and top speed is not why I got them to start with
I only posted that comment because you were too lazy to Search. Members including myself tried all kinds of ways to overcome the VDC which does not allow you to brake-launch. That's why launching the AT is out of the question, unless you plan on damaging your transmission going N-D that's a different story.
One last thing, read the forum rules before posting, name calling I assure you will get you banned.

If you want control, you need to go with a manual trans. That's just the way it is. The OEM clutch with always slip a bit and relieve some of the stress of an aggressive launch. The engineers know this.

Brake torquing of any AT does help it launch. You can definately feel the difference. It does let you go to about 2k rpms and you can shut off the vdc at least partially.
YES, there are no clutches in automatic cars, thank you captain obvious. So what? The thread is about launching techniques, not what people think others should buy. His auto will give your coupe a good run for the money even if you drop the clutch. I do agree there is no need for name calling or being nasty though.
You think launch on an auto car does not matter? Watch this:

I've heard time and time again that the best way to launch a G37 with an AT is to just mash the pedal when the tree hits green. I know using a stall convertor is histiorically the popular way to launch with AT's (I come from using a 3200 Stall in my 69 Dart), but not in the G's case. People have gotten better times more consistently with the "mash the gas at green" technique.

If the 7AT is anything like the 5AT, you'll get the best results by putting it DS and flooring it with the VDC off. You can double check with the guys that have time slips to see if they have any other launch tips:

I agree about RWD cars but not AWD cars.
I drove a friend's 08S sedan 5AT and I agree that just mashing the pedal is best becasue if you brake torque you will either spin or the vdc will choke power if you leave it on.
However, for a AWD car, it definately feels faster to brake torque pre launch becasue with perfect AWD traction you can simply put more power down and the car won't spin with VDC off. It actually snaps you neck back a little tiny bit with brake torquing so its gotta work. I will try at E-town one of these days to confirm.

Thank you there were some actual useful answers form some of you. And yes, that is correct, Alex57r, thank you - if I wanted a 6mt I would have bought a 6mt. Apparently most g37 owners don't spend a lot of time at the dragstrip because if they did, they would know that the fastest cars all have AT's; historically, various and sundry 4-speed ATs populate the 9 and 8 second vehicles. And for the record, the 7AT sedan is faster than the 6MT coupe - go and read C&D, Motor Trend, or any number of other car rags. You can find the articles using the search function.
