Winter autocrossing = powersliding
This past sunday was BSCC (Bremerton Sports Car Club) Practice #1. Autox 2009 has finally started!
Pre-race gas stop:
I never bothered to switch out the stock potenzas for winter. Thus even though it was dry, it was so cold that I didn't exactly have all the grip that I'm used to.
Icey car:
My friend in his NC Miata was in the same boat, so it led to some pretty serious psuedo-drifting/powersliding.
Said Miata on the way there:
I normally autox with a big group of friends, but we could only get 3 together this time. Me in the G37, my roomate in his Mazdaspeed 3, and my friend in the NC Miata. I'm happy with how things went. I did some of my best driving ever and managed to beat the other two. The clean finishing times were: G37 51.7, Miata 52.8, MS3 53.8. For reference, a guy in a modified Lotus Elise was running 47.xxx.
Here's some in-car videos. You'll hear a bit of banter between me and my roomate in some of them. We're generally a bunch of goofballs while we autocross. Troy in the Miata was right in front of me in line, so you'll see him leave the starting line in my videos. At the very end of the Mazdaspeed 3 video he had the car slip out of 2nd gear under braking(this is an ongoing problem). Thus his time was a bit worse than it would have been.

Nah, the cones don't do anything. The worst they leave behind is a bit of cone rash, which is just this black rubbery stuff that scrapes right off. I've never had a cone leave a permanent mark, even if you smack straight into it.
