Hi All,

I dont race anymore on the track these days but I have to say the G37 feels like a much faster car than the 13.8 range that it is commonly listed at.

It seems to be the 1/4 mile time is hurt by the fact that you have to drop the clutch from high revs.

My last two cars were an S2000 and an RX-8 which both required heavy clutch drops to do good 1/4 mile times. However, the S2000 is a fast car but the RX-8 is too slow and although it is shown to run a 14.2, I dont never saw anyone do it stock. It was a nice car and the rotary is unique but it was way too slow and lacked torque.

I would like to see comparisons from a rolling start because if the automatic loaner I have has very good acceleration.

I have raced in a variety of cars and the G37 feels like it would be around 13.4 to me and I usually have a good feel. I realize it is slower but the 1/4 time certinaly is not the end all of telling how fast a car is.

I agree. There is much more to the g than 1/4 mile times.

besides maybe a roll race starting at 100, weight is a significant factor whether you are talking launching/drag racing or corner carving. lower weight is easier to get motivated from a stand still or slow roll, and lower weight is without question beneficial for preservation of the brakes for a road racer. why the 6mt g coupe is almost 200lbs heavier than a sedan sport 6mt is mind boggling. it can't be from just a .2 larger displacement engine? what contributes to this?

I believe the extra weight in the coupe is from extra safety materials like reinforced doors.

the G37 has too many disadvantages to actually perform well from a dig....the wieght (obviously), the gearing, the relativly 'skinny' rear tires, plus the low torque and high rev power band...

it definatley is more of a freeway car...it really does pull like a train above 70

I agree that it is too heavy. If they could make it 800lbs less then it would be a true rocket.

However, for a heavy car, it handles well and still has extremely good times. Same trap time as 335i with turbo.

With the weight and all, the car really does take off above 60 or so.

It also is probably one of the easiet cars to get a ticket in ever. I let me wife drive the loaner and thought we were going about 60 and asked how fast we were going. She looked at the speedo and said 100 and then put on the breaks.

G37 is not as fast as perhaps we would like to see it from a dig but it is still darn fast from a dig.

No car is ever as fast as people want. People with the GS-T will be complaining that it should have been 700hp.

I can tell you this, the car is fast. The 1/4 mile time does not reflect the amount of power it has from almost any RPM range.

I have had cars faster, slower, and around the same speed and I can tell you this has very good performance.

A sports car is about more than 1/4 mile times but having good power is a requirement. I do consider the G37 Sport 6MT to be a sports car myself which could be debated.

I wonder how the car would compare via track lap times? That would be more important in my book....
