Rev matching in 6mt
#46
i would use it coming from a high speed into a tight turn. Clutch heel toe raise the rpms to around 6500 and go

i take it most of you guys that don't rev match haven't been driving stick very long. its pretty simple: clutch in, bring the revs up to where they should be in the gear you are going to, put it in gear, and slip the clutch out...
i've been doing it so long in my m3 that i don't even get any jerkiness between shifts now. it just takes ALOT of practice to get it right from car to car. you gotta be able to jab the throttle once with the appropriate pressure and bring to the right correct rpm.
heel-toeing is a different story and the only way to get it working well is if you are really hammering down some twisty roads. basically it lets you brake and switch gears in one motion without upsetting the cars balance.

hmm. could it be why i cant drop to 2nd gear when approaching a right turn (im approaching at about 40 mph / 60 km/h). i think they car wont let me drop to 2nd because the wheel speed is too great for the engine to handle at one. so would rev matching solve this ?

now this is spirited street driving...to maximize power and wheelspin (lol) on teh track and have fun you could prob pull off some high revving 2nd gear downshifts at higher speeds...ud be shifting to 3rd righttt away but if ur goin for the best track times it could make the difference....

lol. there are a few vince's around..
.
anyways. do u guys turn right at 2nd gear usually, ??? i find myself making right turns normally in 3rd gear, and it seems to be the most 'natural' gear to me.

If you are trying to downshift 2 gears and the shifter won't slide into the gate the issue is that the primary and secondary shaft speeds are are too far apart from each other. The syncros can't cope with the speed differential so you can't get it in gear.
The fix is to double clutch the downshift. This should be coupled with a blip of the throttle to match the revs. The important thing is that you do it in the right sequence.
First you dip the clutch in enough to slip the shifter into neutral, you then (with the clutch pedal up) blip the throttle, immediatly then you dip back into the clutch and select the lower gear and release the clutch before the revs fall.
The key is bliping the throttle with the clutch out/transmission in neutral, this is what syncs the primary and secondary shaft speeds.
Doing this manuvuer while coasting into a turn is one thing (easy), if you are coming in under braking it is an order of magnitude harder since you will have perform heel-toe braking to blip the throttle.
