335i vs G37 at the drag strip
#49
Just half a car length. There wasn't much room from light to light to really do anything. I was just shocked that when he took off, it was not like a progressive pull i.e. we are side by side and he evenutally passes, it was more like a instant jump to a car length, then I was able to bring it down to half a car. I didn't rev high or do neutral bomb. It was just a friendly race to see who takes off faster. The G37 manual is probably even or faster than a 335i auto, we just need a 1/4th to prove it. If we do another run but a longer distance or get to a track I will record it on film.

The tests that I am referring to are Car and Driver, Road and Track, Automobile Mag, and all the posted and reported drag tests in the real world.
So far we have seen no indication that there is wide gap between the two on any of the mag tests or any real world tests. Surprisingly, the fastest real world times we have seen thus far reported are from 5ATs.
I agree that mag tests can be done better. But if they can be done better on one they can be done better on the other. I say all this as I don't think any G37s are going to be beating any 335s stock for stock. A 6MT G37 will not beat a 335 AT in a drag race from a dig.

i don't believe a G37S in any for stock will beat a 335i in a dig as well.
but i was just thinking the extra gear and gearing ratios plus the ability to rev higher to pop the clutch would generate a better time...at least flexibility to get better times.
yes the 6MT in those magazines have been timed at 13.9 to 14.1....similar to the 350Z tests they did which of course have seen 13.6s stock on stock tires on owner times.
of course we will never truly know until we see more 6MT guys at the track...
infiniti/nissan has made great improvements on the trannies on both models though. kudos to them.

I think the 6MT has a tenth of a second advantage 0-60 especially if it can maintain traction because you can drop the clutch higher than the 5AT torque converter can stall. I don't like the Bridgestones that much. They are great for a quieter ride but the Michelin Pilots on my G35 coupe were a little stickier. I bet with the Michs the cars could improve the 60 foot times for sure.
