The reverse lockout should have nothing to do with the ****. It's a stopper built into the stock/short shifter itself that catches on a reverse lockout plate inside the assembly if you don't push down when you're shifting into reverse.
Just check out the manual on TWM's site guys. I read it ahead of time to make sure I didn't need help... never installed a short shifter before, but it's caveman easy. It's the 350Z manual I think, but it has a G37 specific part inside. You'll see the plate I'm talking about... I think it's a gold semi-triangular piece.
