dyno tune + mods combo

I plan to get these intake and exhaust mods in near future, and definitely get a dyno tune with Uprev or Cobbs.

Intake : Stillen Gen 3

Exhaust mods : - headers,
- HFCs,
- Cat back exhaust OR Stock with Axle Back

Some of you have got dyno tunes with cat back and gen 3, and even HFCs and got good gains but is it worth adding Headers to the list?

whats the piping size on stock exhaust?

Headers aren't worth it IMO.

I think stock piping is 2.25".

Also, you will get more gains with a full catback exhaust, compared to just axle back.

Headers aren't worth it...and DEFINITELY go with UpRev in the tune.

99% of the tuners i know use UpRev software anyways

curious as to why most say headers arent worth it? im not disagreeing, im just curious, is it because the stillens are shorty headers. do the FI long tube headers for the 370 fit our cars?

Actually...there are LTH's made specifically for the G. But from the people ive seen with headers or LTH just haven't made any good gains to justify them

I think the problem is (so I've been told...) - for the amount of money that the headers cost plus the installation, the gain isn't significant enough. They sound great tho - but the gain is really low considering the amount of money it costs for them plus the trouble and cost of having them installed.

I've been considering a dyno tune for some time now. I have a cat-back (Ichiba Ypipe and Greddy) & Injen SRI, can i expect to see any real gains from a tune??

well I'll leave headers out then. The g37 looks like it was optimized for performance right from the factory and they squeezed as much power as they could in terms of efficient, reliable NA motor. I'm sure it can make more power but then maintenance or reliability will take hit like the M3.

HFCs seem to add the smell which I don't want and not sure how it'll comply with emissions.
So gen 3 and catback with tune, Stillen seems to have a special on these right now.

cheers

yes, but the tune is completely reliant on the tuner themselves. the skill of the tuner is directly reflected in the results of the tune

You should be ok with HFCs when it comes to smells.. HFCs don't release the smell of gases, it's TP that let out the smell of gas.

Yeah HFC definitely don't make it smell at all. Test pipes will make your car smell like ethanol all the time but with HFC you will be just fine

ERZ HFCs... got them on my G37xS sedan. No bad smells, other than the first few days burning off the oils/etc. from the manufacturing process.

No CEL/emissions issues either.

Yes, top range is probably about 30Hp, not earth shattering but considering your investment so far and additional $400-600 investment will actually allow you to feel the differnece. My mods didn't even register until I got the tune, it's been the single best upgrade yet.

As for selection, I'd research your local tuners first before finalizing on a tuning solution. There are no Uprev tuners in my area currently although I hear one is planning on it.

Are you using the Cobb or Uprev? I want mine tuned as well and was wondering if any of you bought the Uprev cord to switch maps before any dealer servicing>

Thanks,
Ron
