Question for those with substantial modifications to their G
I'm starting to plan out the future of my G. Within the next year or two I know I'm going to want something more, so the question is do I start modding the G, or just buy a different car. 3 cars are kind of catching my eye right now -- The M3, the upcoming RS5, and the CaymanS. Through hard work and lots of luck purchasing one of those 3 in 1-2 years would actually be a reasonable financial decision.
But then I started thinking, what if I could keep the G and turn it into my dream car. So assuming I'm willing to put ~$15,000 worth of mods into the G, what could I really expect to get out of it?
I'm not worried about power, running 400-500 hp with a TT or SC setup would more than take care of that. I'm much more concerned with driving feel and handling. I love my G, but I am constantly aware of it's weight. At highway speeds I fall in love all over again, but from a stop or when cornering hard it can feel like quite the fatty. For those with extensive suspension mods, just how much of a change have you noticed? What I don't want to do is drop a ton of cash into the G, test drive a friend's M3, and then say "nope...G still can't compare!" then end up selling the G anyways. Sometimes I find myself fantasizing about the CaymanS, I really envy it's near-perfect balance and lightness on its toes...
Any thoughts and input are greatly appreciated!

Well, suspension wise, if you get some nice coils, hotchkis sways, gt spec front strut bar and underbraces youll feel a world of difference. The car will handle like its on rails.
This wouldnt cost you anywhere near 15k either, prob looking at 2500 for everything.

(The $15k was including the cost of going FI)
Hmm that might be the ticket. Go ahead and do some suspension work (with a goal of not spending more than $2-3k) and see how that feels. If I like where things are going I can go all-in with some serious engine/tranny work and some modest cosmetic mods (LED headlights, black grill w/ chrome fuji, paint the rear chrome spoiler OB...I love the clean sleeper look). If not, strip off the suspension mods and sell, enjoy my G as-is for another few years and then get something else in a few years.
Not a bad idea at all, but I still welcome more input!

Even with all the suspension tuning you're gonna do, you will drive an M3, and still say "The G still does not compare". You want to spend 15k in a good manner, go get an E36 M3, do some routine maintenance on it, throw an intake, exhaust, and a good tune on it, and track the hell out of it. That car will impress you in so many ways. The G is a great Touring car, but it will never compare to an M3, even ones that are 11 years and 3 generations old.

M3
^^ I agree with both...
If someone was doped up enough to trade their E92 M3 with my G, as is. I would do it in a heartbeat. I love my G but the M3 is just a whole different beast!
