Has anyone had experience with the different axle backs on the sedan? I was thinking about getting tanabe. Heard it's not that big of a sound difference at all? I would like to get as many opinions as possible since its $500 for an axle back.

Have you looked at the stickied sedan exhaust thread with youtube videos of sedan exhausts in the sedan forum?

Whether the OP has a coupe or sedan makes a difference. On the sedan, the muffler delete isn't raspy or obnoxiously loud. It's like beating a dead horse here but these bolt-ons for our cars are really not worth how much these parts costs from a performance standpoint. Buying a catback for sound and the aesthetic? Sure, that makes sense to me . Before you knock my credentials, check out my build thread.

Muffler delete on sedan isn't raspy. On the contrary, a 2.25 Fast Intentions system with 12'' resonators does. Weird, the quality full catback sounds worse than a muffler delete.
I've heard a muffler delete on a G37 sedan in person. It's raspy and sounds awful.

Tons of rasp, right? . Sounding awful? It sounds identical to a lot of G37 catback/axle-back setups.

Sounds great! Does it get rid of that factory rasp/tinny sound under wot?

It's not my car, I had a muffler delete for a month on my car before I bought a catback exhaust. It wasn't raspy, or tinny. And, my R2C intakes completely drowned out exhaust noise after 4K RPM.

I personally love how my muffler delete turned out. Great and reasonable sound at startup, lower driving speeds, and open throttle. Yet virtually no louder in the cabin than stock when cruising at interstate/hwy speeds (65-80). And most importantly, no rasp, not ever.

I think that there are some variables that come into play in how a muffler delete will sound. The length/diameter of the section of straight pipe that you install to replace the muffler/pipe section that you cut off is super important. Other exhaust mods will definitely change it as well.

I stayed as close as possible to the oem piping diameter for my straight pipes and got exhaust tips w/ matching inlet size. I've heard nothing but awful or mixed reviews from people who up-sized the pipe diameter.

I just took my tanabe's off my sedan and put some 4.5" resonated oval tips on. I wanted to go a little louder, and so far i am really happy with the sound. I also had vibrant 12" resonators on and had to put the stock resonators back on. The sound with the vibrant resonators was WAY too loud and raspy. I will try to get a sound clip and some pics up tomorrow.

I'm not positive, I wanna say you're right on 2.25", that's what my tip inlet size is. I just told the shop to keep the stock size piping.

I don't have any from up close. I could get some if you needed. I was unsure about what tip size to go, as I didn't want them to be too large and wanted them to be subtle. I went rolled angle cut 3.5" tips. They look good, but they look pretty small. I may eventually up-size to 4" tips, but i'm content for now.
They're filthy, but you get the idea of how they sit.
