Sport Muffler (Exhaust) Installed

Scored one from the Infiniti eStore at @25% off. ($533)
As an FX owner with the VQ35DE engine, I miss the growl in my G37xS.

I did see a Sport muffler on a couple of showroom floor cars but the salesman told me it was not available for aftermarket. I did my research (here) and fortunately found he was mistaken.

Cut to the chase. If Coke is normal, this is RedBull. It's not a HUGE difference, it is exactly the boost in tone and volume I was looking for.
It drives fairly normally until I stomp on it, and it's all the difference.
I also noticed after some driving the sound improved further.

Was it in my head? well my kid texted me and told me one of her friends just happened to be driving behind me and said the car sounded awesome. She did not mention the exhaust so maybe not so mental after all.

Here are several shots of the install. Photobucket seems to be a pain to manage bulk lists of pics do I'll just dump the lot here without comment. It should be pretty straight forward to see what was done. I used a torch to heat the flange bolts and WD40 to ease the nut movement. Also used WD40 on the rubber hangers which helped quite a bit. I used a large flathead screwdriver to pry the rubber hangers over the tip of the muffler hangers. I also cleaned the flange bolts and flanges with a wire wheel on a drill. It made installation smooth.

The tips are huge. Not wider but taller and rounder. They only stick out to the OUTER edge of the stock diffuser. Just enough for me. I like the sound and the looks. Exactly what I was aiming for. I'll post some video as soon as I figure out how.

nice... you are going to enjoy it. I got mine mated with a Motordyne XYZ-pipe and the sound is deep and there is a nice rumble at idle.

Hmmmmmmmm

One more thing to consider getting eh?

Probably a R2C black nickle intake first.

Hmmmmmmmmmm.

Can you tell me more about the XYZ? is it just for improved tone?

The XYZ pipe is from Motordyne engineering. It replaces the stock Y-pipe. It comes with either a resonator, or just a straight pipe. The resonator gives it a deeper warmer sound. The straight pipe keeps the sound brighter. its larger diameter allows for more flow and a little gain in power

LOL!

It was the large tips that first got me wanting it! I saw those big cans on a car in the dealership and thought "Baby's got back!"

^^^LOL. Dat a$$ tho! LoL

For me it just doesnt "fit" the whole look of the car. BUT I have heard it in person and I think it sounds pretty good. You like it? Did you just change the muffler or do you plan to get some pipe work done too?

I only changed the muffler.

I'm very pleased with the sound. It's more of a growl than the purr it used to be. It's louder too but only under aggressive acceleration.

All in all I don't think I'd like it any louder as I don't want any more cabin noise...although I am interested in a set of short tube intakes. (Like the looks)

So I'm not currently planning on add'l pipe work, but this is an addiction so who knows?

^^^Yup. I plan to get piping done but leave the stock muffler. I am looking for the same outcome, a little more aggressive sound under acceleration but nothing crazy any other time.
