Header Options for G37x Sedan Owners

I've read just about every thread on this forum about headers and haven't gotten a whole bunch of answers, just split opinions. Before I go calling PPE, FI and Z1 I wanted to find out here what other sedan owners with headers have chosen and experienced from their headers. I know headers are expensive and expensive to have installed.

Questions for G Sedan header owners:
1. What headers do you have?
2. Are they shorties OR long tubes?
3. If shorties what HFC or TP did you pair them with?
4. Did you have any installation issues?
5. What difference did you feel or see on the dyno?
6. CEL issues?

If you could list your other breather mods that would be helpful as well. I'm really looking for feedback from owners with headers only and not heresay I've had good success adding headers on other cars and I am holding out hope that the same can be had for our G's.

I think they are few and far between. Most don't go that far with their sedan. Heck, maybe not many coupes have the ppe's except for the 370/350z crowd. I have no idea about fitament on an x. I would go ahead and call. If the fitament is different, I wouldn't expect a group buy.

From: Framingham Ma,
I really don't think there is that much difference the Tcase is up front, The thing would be just getting ones for a auto, all tho not worth the cost. Just HFC's and your fine

Short headers barely make any difference on DE engines. And on HR engines it's a complete waste of money unless you do it yourself and you get them for free as a gift. Otherwise you are looking to pay 600+ for headers and 400+ for installation so about 1k to gain maybe 2hp and that's after you tune it, without tune you might gain 0 or even lose power. Total waste of money if you ask me. Long tubes will make a difference simply because you are eliminating cats, can have the same thing with $20 test pipes.

Thanks for the feedback. Suppose I'll stay focused on my other projects. I have plenty I'm working on right now.

OP, you do know you already have headers on the car, right? Honestly, I wasn't well-versed in the G's exhaust when I bought it, so it was a surprise to me that we have OEM shorties.

Like it's been said, you're not going to fine a lot of aftermarket header discussion here, particularly not in the Sedan forum. The ROI is not good.

I didn't know this. As you, I don't really know what's down there. I was planning on investigating this weekend while changing the oil.

I assumed the exhaust manifold bolted to the cats, but I guess these are between the manifold and cats?

My reason for inspecting...do you recall the pictures of my exhaust? The midpipe connection is BADLY rusted and I dare not take it apart until I am ready to replace everything.

So I decided to put HFC and CBE in at the same time, but I need to inspect the connection point of the cats to know what I'm in for. I really hope they look much better than the midpipe connection. Is the connection between the cats and the header usually in good condition?

As a refresher:

Why are the guards in so much better condition than the pipe? Are they aluminum?

Also, why are my muffler pipes towards the back so much nicer? Is it because they are merely a few inches higher off the ground?

Not exactly. Headers are the exhaust manifold, just a particular type of exhaust manifold where each exhaust port has its own pipe that's collected further down the line.

Terminology sherminology.

Those pics... my gawd. It's like lasagna was fused to the exhaust, and then petrified into stone.

You know, I actually knew that headers were the manifold, at least, I did. I seem to have lost some information in my mind. Gonna have to open a support ticket for that.

I'm actually considering replacing my exhaust with an oem one from the WTS section here. I'm going to upgrade to 2.5" someday, but when I do, I'll want to hang onto the oem exhaust. The one pictured above isn't going back on and I don't plan on keeping it. Is this wasted money, or does it make sense?

You asking me? I'd call it a waste of money.

And if you're thinking you need to replace that rusty set of pipes, I'd call that an opportunity.

I too see it as an opportunity. I was just going to replace them with OEM for like $125 plus shipping, then again later on for like $1500 or so. I'm going to see if he still has the exhaust and what the shipping will come out to, which should help my decision.

Edit:

LOL, I just discovered that the person with the OEM exhaust is the OP of this thread.

Currently have Stillen ceramic on my 2011 G37x. I’ll be swapping to PPE this weekend.

Any x sedans out there running ppe with no fitment issues? Just curious! Also wanted to see some pictures if anybody has! I’ll be taking a bunch of pictures this weekend of both the Stillen and the ppe as references.

Per ppe: Awd and Rwd are same ppe part number. Verified over the phone. Got a good deal on a local part out, can’t wait to go for the first pull with them on lol.

Sound clip? What kind of increases in power did you experience?
