Cold air intake ?

Hey guys,

im very new to this forums, so first off, Hi all

Not sure if it is the right spot to ask this question but here it is:

I just got my 2010 G37S, and would like to have better sound by adding a cold air intake.

I've seen some good rated K&N intake for about 350$, does it worth it or i can get better deal ?

Also would this void my warranty with my dealer you think ?

Is there any risk to add this component, some of my friend says i could not drive when its raining anymore and be careful at water.

What do you guys think ?

Sorry for bad English.. i'm Canadian.

I'm running the typhoon setup and have been the last year or so.

Not bad deal for the K&N if its new. I did see one on here that was used for around $200.

It will NOT void your warranty.

I drive my G in the rain all the time with no issues...your friends are giving you bad advice and are dumb. Now, I wouldn't go spraying water directly on the filters when/if you wash your engine.

Thank for the quick reply, yeah sorry i mean frenchy canadien

Also, i'm yet not into performance tweak but rather esthetic and sound mods.

Considering this, would it be better a short ram intake or full cold air intake for the sound and look.

What you guys think ?

I just had a look at the typhoon short ram setup and i must say it does look good, but what about the sound result , would you better go for short ram or full intake ?

Thanks in advance !

I haven't seen any of our cold air intake mounted in fender well. Stillen and other cai mounts in the front grill which is not that bad if you're in a area where it rains often.

I had the Injen CAI in my G and had some issues in heavy rain with my engine shutting down completely (hydro-lock). So I would stay away from CAI in the G if you are in a rainy city. Go with the Stillen Injen 3, they are by far the best, IMO

So i have had both the stillen gen 3 and switched to the r2c intake system. Top end power goes to the stillens but from some comparative dynos with the r2c, it gets good mid range power close to the gen 3's.

Where the difference lies is the sound. R2c's really suck in some air in the engine bay and sound great. I didnt quite get that with the stillen gen 3. Just my comparison between the two. Also, you do not have to oil the r2cs. Its a great long lasting filter setup and the sound is awesome

I have the K&N Typhoon short-ram intake and I'm very pleased with it. I got it new on E-Bay for $320 including shipping. It's well worth it IMHO. A nice growl comes from under the hood when you stomp on the pedal and I can feel a slight difference. I've had it on my car for two years and have had no issues.

Just an FYI: I installed a generic short ram intake and I actually lost power and torque. I mean, it was an immediate difference in loss and lag. With that, I re installed my factory intake, reset the ECU and I was back to normal.

But my question is: Would this particularly be the same with a brand name short ram or cold air intake?

Your ECU needs to re-learn when you install an intake. My suggestion is to run the car semi hard after installing something like an intake so it will learn the new airflow and then will give you more power.

If you install an intake and just do slow city driving for the next week the ECU will learn it that way and yes you will prob loose power.

There is a DIY on resetting your ECU During install of a CAI... I disconnected my Neg on the Battery on installing my Gen3... reset it just fine followed the directions and the guys here and Ran it like it was stolen and all done ... love the Gen3's... its a pain to install but so worth it ...
