AEM Dry-flow filter for Stillen Gen 3
Searched for the correct AEM Dry-flow filter to replace the K&N filters that came with my Stillen Gen 3's in April 2012. There didn't seem to be a really definitive answer, hence this post. I know I can just clean and recharge the K&N filter, but I just didn't want to deal with the prospect of over-oiling. I also probably swapped them a little prematurely, but my mileage had been dropping some, and I thought the filters might be getting dirty. Here's what one of them looked like (after 8,700 miles):
Closest I got to an actual AEM model number was from the the370z forum, but it eventually led me to the AEM 21-203D-XK which turned out to be a perfect match. The K&N filters that came with my intake also turned out to feature the X-stream filter element on the top of the intake (didn't do the original install myself, so this was a bit of a surprise to me).
Here's the AEM Dry-flow replacement filter box (I apologize for the sideways photos):
I was a little worried because I knew the original K&N's were bolted at the top of the filters to the car frame in front of the radiator, and it wasn't clear the AEM's would have the hole for the bolts. As it turned out, there was a removable plug on the top of the AEM filters that left a perfect hole for the original bolts. The picture is of the original K&N filter, but the AEM filter was exactly the same. On top there is the plug from the AEM filter that I'm talking about.
Anyways, hopefully this helps anyone else who's been looking for AEM Dry-flow filter replacements for their Gen 3s.
Also, some thanks is warranted for the radiator shroud and grill removal DIYs!
