stock intake and K&N filters problem?

wondering if anyone else has come across this...

One of the first things i did to my car was swap out the stock air filters and replaced them with K&N.

Lately ive been getting the 'service engine soon' light come on. First time was about 8 months ago. Diagnosis from dealer was a cylinder misfire had occurred (according to a recorded code) however problem was not evident during test drive. they cleared the code and all was good til last week. Light went on again and dealer said same thing....But they are suggesting that its being caused by the K&N filters-that they are not a perfect fit and are very oily. They cleared the code and it came back on again yesterday.
So i am going to put back stock filters to test out there theory....anyone else come across this? For the record, i have never noticed anything wrong with car.

had this on my stage 2 GTI, was very oily, but never had this issue.

did have some issues, this might have NOT helped lol

the drop in K&Ns are good, but this seems like a weird issue.

p.s. funny cause as I quick reply the K&N banner add shows up lol

I have had numerous K&N replacement filters on ALL of my current and past nissans, and never had this problem.

When the dealer says the filter isn't an exact fit, is horsesh!t and they're just giving you a load of crap cause they don't want to fix it. IMHO, those K&N filters fit better than the paper ones and are tighter in the basket.

I would continue with your oem filter test, then bring it back in when the cel goes off again. Have them fix it, then put your K&n back in.

Doesn't sound like a filter issue. A lil oil thru the intake will burn jus like gasoline. No misfiring code lol. A simple thing like that they might and prolly legally can deny you warrenty. Lesson here is always take out ur intakes for warrenty work! Unless they had installed it and then the warrenty is legit. Let us know what happens.

When you buy the K&N filters, there is a paper in there that says "installing this filter does NOT void the factory warranty, if the auto maker denies service, please call (this number)"

So who's right? The dealer or K&N?

on my old car the K&N actually did more than an actual cold air intake, simple drop in, got slight gains, nothing crazy

K&N is 99% Solid, the 1% might be a bad unit that came off the line.

I would also lean towards the k/n not being the problem...
...I will lose it on them if they start talking warranty issues!
I'll Post up with results...

The only issue I have seen with K&N drop ins is when people over oil them. They are good filters.

Hmm I don't see why a filter would be doing that. I think you might have a bad O2 Senor because I have injen CAI and haven't ran into a single CEL that had to do with the intakes.

Try a different stealership if there are more around you.

What if you really have an issue? By the time you keep clearing it and all, what if it progresses? Just a question. I think you should take it to more than one place to have it diagnosed.

The code being thrown was a cylinder misfire.
