Tanabe Medallion question. Help!
Hello all,
I just had the Tanabe Medallion exhaust and mid pipe installed today on my 08 G37 AT. It looks fantastic but is is much louder inside the car than I was anticipating.... I have the R2C intakes too, BTW.
- If I swap the midpipe back to the stock will this reduce how loud it is?
- Is there a problem with the install?
It is loud at even moderate acceleration especially at between 1500 to 2500 RPM.
I love the sound just want it a little more subdued...
Thanks!!

Although people around here state that Tanabe is one of the quieter ones, I too think they're too loud. It took some forum search digging but you're not alone in feeling this way.
Not really much you can do about it besides getting used to it or looking at other options.

It's one of the louder exhausts IMO. If you run just the axle back it's not bad at all. Dont put hfc's it will magnify it. My set up is very deep and loud but to be honest I wouldn't change that for anything. Throttle response improved greatly as well after y and mid were installed.

I have the Tanabe axle back and I have just the opposite problem.....I wish it were louder! After about a 3 months I did notice that it has gotten a little louder, but still want a little more from it. Sorry I wasn't any help. Good luck.

Well I went back today and had them remove the mid-pipe and put stock back on. It is quieter but still a little loud. However I do love the sound of the tanabes so I will suck it up and get used to the volume. Besides my 4 yr old son said "I like how your car sounds. Vroom vroom!". If he's ok with it so am I

I have them for several weeks now and I think they are just barely louder then stock. They are a bit throatier. I like it. We'll see if it get louder as it ages. I have had loud exhaust before and its annoying.

If your willing to spend a few more bucks and put in a bit of work, try picking up some sound deadener and laying some down in the trunk, particularly in the spare tire well. I had a pretty decent stereo install on my previous car (TSX) and noticed the car become substantially quieter after sound deadening my doors and entire trunk area.
My buddy has an Audi A4 with a turboback exhaust and complained about it being too loud, we laid down one layer in his spare tire well only and it made a huge difference for him, just something to consider.

Also for all of you with the Tanabe axle-back, do you find that the exhaust piping/canisters sit lower than the stock axle-back or are they about the same height from the ground? I am considering the axle-back but the only thing stopping me is any possible clearance issues it may cause, wouldn't want to scrap a brand new exhaust as my X is now dropped on the pro-kit. It's bad enough already dealing with the snow and massive pot holes here in NJ
