Pop-Chargers & Stillen Gen 3

I'm not sure how Pop-Chargers work but is it possible to install Stillen Gen 3's and put a Pop-Charger on it?

Sounds like the buzzwords are getting you confused.. Let me see if I can help.

Pop Charger is a term for intake, beginning with the 350Z and Jim Wolf who called his short ram intake a "Pop Charger", and for all intents and purposes is a free flowing conical filter. This has carried over into the newer vehicles, and has become sort of the "Kleenex" to "bathroom tissue" to point to all short ram intakes.

There are two basic categories the G37 Intakes fit into:

1. Short Ram Intake (SRM) - Generally is an intake that replaces the upper accordion tubes from the throttle bodies, most eliminate the factory air boxes and replace with a free flowing conical filter. Some make concessions for some sort of heat shielding, in the case of our STILLEN Gen 2 Intakes we provide polyurethane heat shield boxes to help direct cool air instead of leaving things open to suck in hot engine heat.

2. Cold Air Intake (CAI) - There are several styles of intakes for the G37 that extend the tubes replacing the accordion section and extend out beyond the radiator, allowing the coldest possible intake charge as it's out of the engine bay.

You can do your research on cold air intakes, but points of contention are the location of the filters in regards to potential issues with water ingestion, ease of installation, and performance.

In the case of the STILLEN Gen 3 Intakes, extreme R&D was done in the development, with over 54 variations being tested on the dyno, ensuring maximum horsepower gain, aggressive sound under full throttle, virtually no change in cruising sound, filter location, integrated urethane splash shield. It has been independently reviewed countless times on Z and G sites, and has been shown to consistently provide excellent gains.

I'm not sure who is building JWT's filters these days, but in essence it's the same type as the K&N filter that we use, being an oiled gauze filter.

While there are many different types of filters on the market, and hundreds of forum topics discussing the benefits and virtues of each, keep in mind this intake system was developed with these filters, and filters can ABSOLUTELY have an impact on the performance gained, even within the same brand of filters.

Going with "bigger filters" is not going to immediately be better results..
