Someone school me: Test Pipes vs. HFC's

Let me first start off by asking which companies make one for the AWD model? I see the ART pipes are not compatible with the AWD system.

Basically I'm looking to keep the stock VQ sound with an added growl to it but no rasp. Performance is not a main concern. Just looking for a bit more sound in the upper RPM range.

What is the difference between the two and what do you recommend?

Test pipes are installed to remove the cat converter. Under the presumption of testing!!
HFCs are HIGH FLOW cat converters.

Get them resonated if you can. I think Fast intentions has some resonated HFC. Test pipes will be more raspy.

ARK claims to have developed a HFC with no rasp. not sure when they will release it.

honestly, if you're not concerned with performance gains and want to keep the VQ sound, just get an aftermarket muffler like the tanabe medalion (or cheaper copy like topspeed).

^Bingo! I have been wanting the Tanabe Medallion but figured I would see what the Test Pipes/HFC's are all about. Love the way the Tanabe's sound.

Depends what exhaust you have. I am able to run a non res test pipe with my invidia Gemini and not have any rasp whatsoever.

i would start with the tanabe and see how you like it. you can always add hfc/tp afterwards to increase performance and exhaust volume.

Stock exhaust.

It sounds like I may go Tanabe (if cost is right) and not add anything else. Like mentioned, I'm going more for sound than performance. The Tanabe doesn't have rasp at all so maybe that is what I should be looking into.

Amplifying the stock exhaust note will make rasp noticeable

Get an aftermarket muffler

^ This...

If you're just looking for sound, buy some Tanabe axel back mufflers and call it a day... stock exhaust will rasp like crazy with HFC & TP.

^ Agreed and agree. I was trying to find another solution since the Tanabe's are so hard to find but I guess I'll bite the bullet and look for them.
