Intake Help!

Hi all, just picked up my 08 G37s (5AT) earlier this week. I'm looking to install an intake soon, just not sure about what type.

1) What's the difference between short-ram and cold-air?
2) Which one has more significant power gains?
3) Are there any cons of installing an intake?

Thanks!!!

1) Difference is that Short Ram is well...a short tube. It will just replace you stock intakes with a metal one plus a better filter. A true cold air intake will have long tubes that go all the way to the front of your grille/front bumper, ultimately taking in the "coolest" air.

2) Cold air intakes will definitely have better gains than a SRI. Point being that SRIs will suck in more warm air than the longer tubed counterparts. I've heard good things about the Gen3s. However, I went with the Injen Short ram because (a) I didn't want to worry about water getting in the intakes and (b) didn't want to have to take off my bumper/grille just to clean/replace the filters. Plus I wasn't willing to shell out the $$.

3) Like I said in (2), with the cold air intakes you'll have to worry about water getting in if you live in a rainy area. With the SRI, you suck in more warm air.

Hope that helps. GL with your decision.

I went with R2C intakes and couldn't be happier - nice gain where I need it (midrange), awesome sound, very easy install/removal.

Every wonder why Infinti didn't put a CAI on the IPL, I mean isn't performance the point? Could it be where they're at with heat shields is.. good enough?

Here's intake temp on R2C which isn't quite as heat shielded as stock, but does have less restrictive filters then stock without sacrificing protection and also enhances sounds.

Ever wonder that the extra "performance" on the IPL is a crock of shiet?

Either Stillen Gen3 or the Takeda long tube, both have very similar HP gains. Only good thing about the Takeda is you don't have to cut anything and it still wraps around the front of the radiator like the Stillen which requires cutting.

Check the Intake/Exhaust forum.. and yea try the search button!

I have Black Injen CAI, good gain and love the sound. Only 2 that made you gain noticeable power was Stillen Gen 3(long tube),Injen CAI(long tube), and now Takeda (long tube) which is basically same design as Stillen Gen 3 IMO. If you want power gain get one of these 3. Price is high and hard to clean filters, unless you have taken off bumpers like Alex from 180custom... lol And if you want less hassle of cleaning filters and better intake than OEM and better sound... get short ram intake like R2C. Good luck OP and update us!

The OP is from CA and as I understand it, the R2C intake isn't CARB-legal, correct?
