+1 it does sounds disgusting. The vq sound you're referring to is a resonated, muffled, restricted sound.

Putting aside the illegality of doing it for street use, the noise that would wake up the dead, and of course the environmental issues, I can’t see why you think this would be a good idea.

My friend is running a 2.75" custom straight pipe on his 350z.. It is too loud and obnoxious.

It's fairly annoying.. And makes his car look cheap also.

You don’t think that removing the catalytic converter befouls the air somewhat?

Not to get stuck on semantics, the OP was asking about two options; one defined as straight pipe which I took to mean without both a muffler and catalytic converter, and the other with just the muffler removed.

As far as your running without a catalytic converter, you alone will have to decide if you meet the requirements of a good, law abiding citizen or not.

I didn't thought about runnng straight without the catalic converters, just removing the muffler,,

I've tried it for 2 days hehe, sounds very loud.... if you just drive it smooth, sound is loud but same great sound that we know form our stock muffler just louder

the big difference is when you hit it at WOT, sounds very metallic (like a very very loud bmw m3 e46)

conclusion, very very loud when accelerating , but on the highway no sound at all, cruising , almost no sound, big difference is at WOT... there is a drone when starting up, but none on the highway and while cruising... car feels like there was less power because the sound is so loud when accelerating in my opinion
