After installing a short ram intake on my g37, I thought there would be a huge difference in sound. Turns out, as compared to stock there isnt much difference. Am I missing something here? What I didnt do is oil the filters with K and N filter charger oil. Should that be done and does that help with sound?

What intake? ..I couldn't imagine the oil to have a factor whatsoever in sound. However, if they are oil filters and you didn't oil, they are not filtering the air.

The oil will not create an increased aggressive sound. Which SRI did you go with?

I know nothing about the K&N filters on your system, but the last K&N filter element I bought came pre-oiled.

you'll get a nice growl at Wide Open Throttle but nothing extraordinary. Try adding a cat-back exhaust.

Its the HPS intake off of ebay. I couldnt see myself spending more then 200 for intake, so I went with that. The intake in my last car had to be oiled, which was turboed. So I was assuming that it to had to be oiled. But yeah, its quiet.

^^That may be the problem but regardless I would think you would hear at least a little difference even with a crapy intake. Usually the growl comes in when you hat 3500+ rpm.

i installed a similar intake... not very loud unless i'm at WOT. exhaust is really the way to go if you want sound.

anyone remember the VW VR6? that thing sounded awesome with an intake! YouTube - ‪VR6 MK3 - Fujita Intake‬‏ <- crappy video, but these things really sound awesome with an intake.

Will your first issue is that you got some crap off Ebay for a $40K + sports car. You should have gone with Stillen or Injen or RCM

Just a minor threadjack. Is there an intake that will improve performance but doesn't make the car much louder/more aggressive?

Yeah I know I should have gotten something a little nicer, but I did just got the car 4 months ago, so I've been a little cheap recently. It does the job which is fine. However, should this filter be oiled or is it not necessary.

You can tell by looking at it, if the filter has been oiled.
If it is a K&N element it needs to be oiled, but it may have came oiled.
If you decide to oil it, you can get the K&N oil at any auto supply store. There should be instructions that come with the oil. The important thing is to not apply too much oil.

Recently a Stillen Short Ram Intake and also don't get that aggressive sound I was hoping for. Checked out the tubes that go to the engine, and they seem to have some type of muffling mechanism on them. I'm assuming that is the problem. Anyone with any advice on how to deal with this?
