Generic Test Pipes

370Z Z34 G37 VQ37 08 09 10 11 Exhaust Test Pipes Cat DL | eBay

It was about an $83.90 test pipe on ebay, I thought about it for a second if it was worth it or not.. But once I saw the "History: 12 SOLD" and made myself the 13th owner of these generic test pipes.

First of all, I want to say thanks to Steveo47! for the guidance into this project.

Job difficulty:
6/10 If you have a car lift
8/10 If you are using car jacks
Expect to break 2 screws, 1 on each side.

Tools needed:
3/8" wrench
3/8" 14MM socket or 9/16"
Breaker bar
WD-40 or your personal lube
Patience
A friend of yours
New screws, locking washers, and nuts if you decide to get the $84 pipes.

I was lucky enough to hit up a buddy of mine who has autoshop at his high school so I got to use the lift to remove the cats.. It took about 3 hours to remove all the nuts.. Then I had to take it to my friends house(yes I drove without cats, Van Diesel was in the car).. Then I got to put the test pipes on.

Be ready to give yourself a 5 hour job!

I will try to give a step by step pictures, hopefully it will make sense.

I started around 10:00 AM jacked the car at in my garage, I was not tempted to leave 1 jack stand on each side.. So I left everything up, 2 on each side.

Left side of the car with jacks;

Right side of the car with jacks;

When I got under the car.. I started on the LEFT SIDE and assumed these are the nuts I am going to remove. So I grabbed the WD-40 and sprayed as much as I wanted on it. 30 minute interval

On the RIGHT SIDE it should be similar as the left side.. So spray your personal choice of lube and spray again after 30 minutes

On the LEFT SIDE you will see the 02 sensor and underneath it is a nut that needs to be removed. You can remove the 02 sensor when your cats are out underneath the car or you can do it when its still on the car.

This part is like a bracket you will obviously see it is like a straight line curved left to right and there are 2 screws with washers you need to remove

On the RIGHT SIDE you will see the 02 sensor and a nut, repeat the same instructions like on the left side too.

On the left side.. Unbolt the screws that is holding between the Y-Pipe and CAT.

On the RIGHT SIDE.. It goes same for the left side between the Y-Pipe and the CAT.

WALA, once you have the cats removed.. You can now replace them back with the test pipes you have. Just go reverse with the instructions and you should be fine.

I did not put back my 02 sensors on my test pipes, and I did not get the CEL lights for about a 5 mile drive. But I will put it on my test pipes tomorrow.

Screws ? - they are bolts.
WD-40 - doesn't work to penetrate. Use PB Blaster.
3/8 drive - 1/2 drive would have made things much easier on you.

..don't mean to sound like a d***, but calling bolts screws sounds retarded & the others may have saved you some time.

How are you running without 02 sensors? The picture shows bungs for 02s. Do have plugs in there?

Anyway, congrats on getting it done. How's it sound and feel?

Hardly ever is, and "butt dynos" are plagued by the placebo effect...

butt dynos are a joke

It gained a deeper tone when accelerating or idled. But the feel is amazing.. It felt pretty good actually, I did not notice I was going over 80 at one time.

i got a stock exhaust as well, which is currently leaking and sounds like i have a pretty loud BOV when i downshift. Anways testpipes make the stock exhaust fairly louder, no rasp with maybe a slight drone

A FEMALE COP HEARD ME COMING DOWN THE STREET PULLED ME OVER AND GAVE ME A TICKET FOR NO PROOF OF INSURANCE(i couldn't find it, so I just gave her my old one..)
she did not cite me for my loud "exhaust" YAY! I was panicing when I could smell the flowage.

Considering that test pipes are illegal in every state for street use, and that they contribute to our foul air in blatant disregard to a healthful environment, what’s the point of this thread, other than to say screw everybody-- I want more performance out of my G?
