Any K&N drop in OPINIONS

After a bunch of research on the forum...I was wondering if Intakes are even worth it? Any of you out there with K&N drop in filters have good or bad opinions? I'm also open to anyone else who has kept their stock box and used another company's drop in. Thoughts? Reviews?

I was even thinking about just modifying the stock air boxs to have a bigger opening in front for better flow and calling it a day...

I'm not a car show guy so chrome and dressing don't mean much vs function.

Thanks!

are you talking about the Deckplate mod ? Toyota 4Runner Highlander Deckplate and Air Filter Modification
I know lots of the 4runner guys do this, Ive done on both my 4runners, on a lifted heavy SUV I dont think it does much for power, but does sound good, lol

I wouldn't expect too much from any style of drop-in filter, it might free up 1-2hp at best, but it's more or less a personal choice not to use stock paper filters. I have the HKS drop-ins right now. I believe for the best long tube/cold air intake option you're looking at the Stillen G3's - I don't think anything else out there compares to the gains from Stillen.

I just got my hands on a another set of oem air boxes...I was thinkin about fabricating the front of them to be a much wider opening and using a drop in...I may even consider using some sort of tubing to pull cooler air from in front of the rad like a stillen G3. Like a hybrid "Ztube" or whatever it's called...

lol the Stillen Gen3 uses K&N filters. but if you were talking only about drop in's, then yes, the HKS look to be better than K&N drop in's

Have used K&N filters on all of my cars, trucks, and bikes for years and have never had a problem with any of them.

HKS drop in filters are the worse when it comes to filtering.

I've been a fan of K&N all my life, then became a fan of Amsoil filters. Now Im on the wagon of WIX gold Filters.

With the Wix you get the High air flow and better oem paper filtering.
