Custom exhaust on my G35x sedan
When I first bought my 08 G35xS sedan, I installed Berk HFCs. Of course I got the nasty rattling rasp that HFCs produce on all HR motors. My next step was to try a set of Magnaflow 12225 mufflers welded in place of the OEM mufflers. I got a little more sound but the rasp was no different. I decided that I wanted a very mellow full catback exhaust. I also did not want to spend $1000+. What few AWD exhaust options out there were neither quiet nor cheap. So a buddy and I built our own.
The parts:
2 x Magnaflow 12225 mufflers
2 x Magnaflow 10415 resonators
1 x Magnaflow 11385 X-pipe muffler
2 x Vibrant 1471S 2-bolt flanges
16 ft 2.25" aluminized tubing
6 exhaust hangers
high temp black BBQ paint
After a lot of work and test fitting, the end result is awesome. The sound is clearly aftermarket but very mellow. A lot quieter than the Fast Intentions exhaust on my wife's 04 G35 coupe. The system eliminated 100% of the HFC rasp as well. I can't say for sure if there are significant power gains but my main goal was sound. There is mild drone around 2500 rpm (65 mph). I wish there was no drone but it is tough to increase the sound level on the VQ motors without some drone. I have attached a cell phone pice of the complete system. It isn't pretty but it doesn't need to be since it is under the car. I also learned MIG welding along the way. My only criticisms: we had no access to a mandrel bender so my tubes are crush bent but they still flow more than OE. Also, 304 stainless pipes are 5x the price of aluminized steel. I paid $60 shipped for the 16 ft of aluminized tubing. Stainless would have been over $300. My cheapo solution for rust was black BBQ paint. I am quite happy with the end result.

After a lot of work and test fitting, the end result is awesome. The sound is clearly aftermarket but very mellow. A lot quieter than the Fast Intentions exhaust on my wife's 04 G35 coupe. The system eliminated 95% of the HFC rasp as well. I can't say for sure if there are significant power gains but my main goal was sound. I have attached a cell phone pice of the complete system. This is a cool option I hate that there are so few options and even more so for sedan and X coming from an evo where we had 100's of options for everything... and like you said the few options are priced nice! haha

I think it's all relative, right? It's quieter than other cars I had in the past, but probably louder than lots of other options for the G37. I like it the way it is now, but might add some resonators to reduce some of the rasp in hard pulls in 1st and 2nd gear.

The only issue with the X sedan vs. RWD sedan catbacks is the transfer case by the transmission. The passenger side pipe needs to be bent slightly different.
This is the RWD system:

This is the AWD system:

That literally is the only difference. It's a shame more companies haven't made something for the X. Competition is always good!

The sad thing is that if you build an exhaust for the G35/37x, it will fit the RWD cars too. The reverse is not true. No need for 2 exhaust systems. Nissan and Stillen both do this. FI bends 2 different passenger side front pipes to accommodate RWD and AWD cars (not sure why they do this - just sell all the setups with the AWD pipe). Unfortunately none of the other companies consider this (ARK, Magnaflow, Borla, Invidia, etc). I considered FI but it was more than I wanted to spend and too loud (I have a FI system on my wife's G35 coupe).
