Stinger pipe and a cross pipe on my coupe

As we continue to search for a better, more exciting sound of the exhaust.
The above work was done at the local muffler shop at the cost of 80 dollars.
The benefits of this setup are: Extremely quiet interior [ lower than factory ] at normal cruising and a very exciting sound when you step on it. The sound level outside is commanding attention while you can listen to some quiet music while driving with your girlfriend.
The drawback is a slightly lower back pressure at low rpms. We are trying to fine tune it now by regulating the length of the stinger pipe but the options are limited to around 5 inches difference. Longer the pipe higher the back pressure but also louder exhaust in the low tones.
The size of the pipe used is 1.75 inch but the joint holes are not 1.75- they are 3/4 inch. It was done on purpose to increase the Helmholtz resonator effect and to obtain some extra " scavenging" noise when you take your foot of the pedal it sounds like a quick breath. This is the sound of equalization of the pressure in those different chambers.
As you noticed the stinger was installed in addition to the 1.5 inch muffler bypass pipes. You can read about those in my other thread.
Generally speaking the sound of your exhaust is good if it pleases your ear and fulfills your needs by giving you a sense of quality of the machinery. You have to be honest to yourself and figure out if you can stand the extra loud tone. Establish what is it you really want from the exhaust- low tones, more highs, more mellow, more rasp? You can't have it all. The change comes at the cost of something else. The experiments are very inexpensive and you can very easily revert to the stock by cutting out what you just added and welding the holes shut.

I will attempt to produce a decent sound clip tomorrow. You know this is such a struggle for me to record the exhaust with those small snapshot cameras. there is so much distortion.

Greg could you please stop posting tiny pictures and enormous text. It's annoying as hell trying to see what foolish you are up to now and having to look at photos the size of a postage stamp to see what crap you have cooked up. Then the text is big enough for a billboard to really make matters more irritating.

LOL.... dude,
you needa quit all that drilling stuff.
All that cash you paid for people drilling or you drilling your stock exhaust you could have a axle back or catback.
Get the megan, it sounds exactly like stock except 1.8x louder. I just ordered the Tanabe because i like the dual canisters. my 3rd exhaust lol
