Finally installed my Injen Hydroshields on my Stillen Gen 3 CAI

So after having these things sitting on my desk for the last 3 months i decided to see if they fit the K&N cone filters that came with the intake, after the annoying task of taking off the plastic radiator cover and loosening all the piping and screws so the filters would come off they turned out to fit perfectly. I put everything back together and decided to take out the plastic shield that Stillen included with the kit to protect the filters from water since the Injen covers seem to live up to their claims (i put my hand in one and ran it under a faucet for about 30 seconds and nothing got through). The filters are the medium sized ones and i got them in red. I think this will help in letting more cold air into the engine since the Stillen shield blocked most of the air coming into the grill and now there is nothing blocking it.

looks like a sweet idea, any downfall to performance to this?

Don't think so, i think it will actually help because there is no more plastic water shield in front of the filters so air flows directly into them now. The hydroshields allow air to pass but not water.

Do you really need these for the Stillen? For the Injen CAI I might say yes but if you are going through water up past the middle of your radiator you are going to fill the inside of the car.

Maybe not but better to be safe then sorry, I had them sitting around so I decided to install them, their bright color also makes the filters stick out from behind the grill which I like

What about driving in heavy rain or going through car washes........

^^Filters wont suck up water unless submerged. Heavy rain or car wash would not do it.

OP can you confirm the part# for the hydroshield? I know INJEN has many different sizes. Also did they fit snug and perfect?

Interesting idea. Like Kid said, there is no reason the filters on the gen3 would suck up water, but there really isn't a downside to doing this so good on you for some innovative thinking

The problems with moisture on the MAF sensors with the Injen intakes seems to show otherwise.

Doing this with the hydroshields isn't a bad idea really. Running without them and without the splash shield should only be done in drier climates IMO.
