Resonated my Test Pipes
Yes, I should've listened to Tony @ FI and gotten the Resonated Test Pipes, but having zero experience with test pipes I thought I'd give them a try see how bad it actually is with the non-res and I pulled the trigger last month https://www.myg37.com/forums/intake-...-and-vids.html
Don't get me wrong, those sound real sexy mated up with the FI exhaust, but at wot and high rpms the rasp just killed it. Also, accelerating slowly under 2k rpms was droney enough to block my ears after a long drive, same feeling you get walking out of a club.
Solution? Well I had two
1) Order Res TP (for like $600 with shipping/customs etc if not more and pay another 200 bux for installation
2) Take my car down to one of the best local Exhaust Fabricators and get resonators fitted in just for $220.. and that's what a sane man would've done
What we did was cut around 10" length from the test pipes and welding custom resonators in. That also meant that the O2 bung had to be moved down along the length of the test pipe since it had to be removed from the way. Here are pix of the resonator fabricated by them
Final product being let to cool off after all the welding work
I was pretty impressed with the results, of course the finish and welds are nothing compared to FI's but that's the least of my cocerns at the moment. Soundwise though, at WOT it brought it back the exotic note of FI.. I won't say those removed 100% of the rasp but they sure did cut down on a LOT OF IT!
In cabin noise also dropped which is great since im considering headers in the coming future. I couldn't be happier to be honest

they're not the best I've seen but they get the job done.. Heat wrap shortens the life on any exhaust mod since it traps the heat causing insane thermal stresses on the wrapped part
