Just get HFC's. There is almost no difference in performance between HFC's and TP's. No check engine lights and you still pass emission inspection.

OT: I've never experienced a CEL issue before, apart from a light on the dashboard, does it affect performance? put the car on safe "limp" mode? anyone?

I mean if its just a stupid light on my dashboard then whats all the fuss about :P

code warning light for your catalyst i don't think will affect performance but if you have to pass emissions test to get new tag, you might have a problem. HFC and TP's will throw this code on your g37 after a while. But i think the improved performance is worth the hassle. HFC and TP's really make a difference on this motor (g37)

With test pipes, chances are that you WILL GET A CEL. Make no mistake about this.

Unless you use an electronic O2 simulator. There is no manufacturer that will make or sell electronic O2 sims in the USA because the EPA can & will fine you big time. Casper Electronics paid a $74K fine to the EPA for marketing and selling their electronic O2 simulator.

With that said, having a CEL due to P0420 & P0430 (Bank 1 & bank 2 catalyst efficiency below threshold) has ZERO effect on performance. Just be absolutely sure that you really do have 0420/0430 codes and not something else!

If you ask me, just pickup a set of BERK HFC's. You get just about the same power gains as test pipes, MUCH less rasp, and no unpleasant exhaust smell. All with a CEL incidence close to the OEM cats. It's a win/win/win situation.

That is a huge problem right now..... especially for those shops that were not prepared for this. We've been in contact with CARB and they are not really giving us any straight answers.

We foresaw this problem back in Oct 2008 so we purchased a large amount of cats before the new year. We have enough stock to last us until roughly May/June. After that, it's time to worry. Let's just keep our fingers crossed that this CA legislation does not spread to the rest of the 49 states.

For you Cali people, you have over 20 authorized BERK dealers that are NOT located in CA to purchase from. Your supply of HFC's is just fine with BERK!

Surprisingly this didn't come from the hippies. This mandate is primarily from pressure from the govenator. Arnold is trying to cut CA's carbon emmisions by some crazy number by year 2020. Was something in the range of 70% compared to todays numbers.

We should all do our part in protecting the envronment, but that doesn't mean trying to revert back to the stone age! E85 for cali anyone? 105 octane pump gas doesn't sound so bad to me!
