The dark spots may be where the most air is being sucked in meaning thats where all the dirt is being filtered. I turned mine (just rotated the filter on the intake) and got the same thing in the same spot. It must be a vortex or something which concentrates the dirty ait. Check on your stock air filters, you should see a dark spot on them too.

Most major problems occur with an air filter is over-oiled. This is strange as I have not seen it happen before but it must be some sort of area where there is a high velocity of air entering the filter at that specific location.
We will be checking with Jim @ JWT on Monday to get his insight.

Thats interesting. But do you have the odd dark spots like mine. They are inward next to the heat shield on both filters. almost symmetrical looking. I don't know if this is related or not, but yesterday when driving, my car felt sluggish and the temp guage looking a little higher than usual when cruising. Or it might be just me. Also the car did not sound as throatier.

I checked with our engineers and here are my findings. The blue coloring dye in the oil does tend to fade, however the actual oil which is colorless is still saturating the element. This is not a problem and the color can be restored with a light application of the blue oil spray used for servicing the filters

So does it still blocks the dust/dirt particles from entering the engine even when it looses the color? Or does loosing color mean dry filters? as they said its a dye that can be restored with oil... confused...
