Hfc 101

Okay, so I was trying to educate myself on exhaust systems, particularly HFC, and figured I'd get simpler and more direct answers here:

Is it legal to install a HFC? (Any Ontarians want to chime in?)

Is it better (performance/price wise) to get just a HFC rather than a full exhaust system?

Opinions are welcome, of course.

People might may start posting for you to use the search function, but I believe the HFC is the best MOD you can do on your car (price and power wise).

Ahh I did, but I got a lot of unrelated results... and usually a lot of bantering and I didn't feel like reading (case in point: injen vs jwt intakes... oh geez).

I'm a firm believer in HFC's are pointless without an air opening exhaust. But thats me. And yes, it is illegal to remove and/or change any working catalytic converters.

HFCs are legal. Test pipes are not unless for off road use. If you are in Cali then you are out of luck. Anywhere else you shouldn't have an issue.

If by your hood you mean Downy, CA then no, it's illegal.

if your going to do it in Cali, might as well do test pipes, better gains IMO..

by the way, the berk hfcs had been dynoed by bboy, and showed massive gains with a stock exhaust.

What do you mean when you guys refer to "test pipes"?

And how the heck can the cops know if I have a HFC instead of the OEM cat?

Maybe I should post in the Canada forum to ask whether HFCs are legal where I am...

Test pipes do get better gains, but they also make the exhaust way too loud for some people, and they might not like the smell of the fumes all day.

Check with your local law about changing your cats, if its legal to do it so, then get HFC.

A lot people in Cali, are still getting HFC's, even though it's illegal.

test pipes are catless pipes, basically running no cats at all. HFCs are legal unless they do not pass CARB which I don't think they do as has been said above, so your on your own in cali.

I just wish I knew how much louder my exhaust would be with HFCs because I'd love to run a set but can't have any more in cab sound than I already do.

In ANY state, it is ILLEGAL to change or remove working catalytic converters for road use. But once their on there on.
