Cobb tuning intake test

http://blogs.cobbtuning.com/?p=160

Looks like most intakes make less power than OEM, and thier intake makes no difference. Thats comforting. I wouldnt pay $X00+ to just change the sound of my engine. No need to be louder and cause unwanted attention w/o the benefit of some notable HP gain.

Very interesting to see those results. The first one "brand F" kinda looked like Injen... no?

I thought the F was for Fujita. Not sure which company N was for though.

Its a Fujita, with some extra fittings connecting it to the Throttle Bodies. You can see the Fujita emblem too.

And I believe the second is a Nismo intake.

Looks like either the stock air boxes are good enough OR that the ECU is seeing the extra air and riching the A/F in some way or another. The ECU's in these cars (350z, G35, G37) just do to much to negate mods...

Also when doing these tests did they reset the ECU via pedal procedure?

Stock intakes on most new model cars are very efficient. However if a Manufacture can produce a better intake than OEM, with reasonable power gains, im in.

I dont think they would either BUTT there was a debate for years if Short Ram, CAI's, or drop in filters actually added any gains or lost.... Thats with the VQ35DE which has only 1 intake inlet....

It all came down to the ECU's not liking a change in A/F via air comming in to engine. Maybe we should only look to get dual intakes if you like the sound/look or plan on a ECU flash/tune

Agreed...if it does have to do with the ECU rejecting bolt on mods, hopefully a reflash will solve it.

Yea the sound is for sure nice though... but i think when you add intake exhaust and test pipes... they all piece together and you will see better gains. Especially with a tune

They're probably losing power because of the heat coming from the engine. All 3 intakes they tested didnt have heat shields. Stillen and Injen apparently have heat shields so they might make a few extra ponies over stock. I could be mistaken though.
