stock exhaust sounds bad

...before it warms up..

it sounds raspy and civic rice-can-like when i turn the car on and drive within 5 or so minutes.. it almost sounds embarrassing to drive out of a parking structure. once the engine warms up, it goes back to sounding sweet again. any of you have this problem?

It's common. Mine only sounds raspy for about 30 to 45 seconds or so on a cold start. Then magnificent.

Probably everyone is talking about the exact same thing. I think that some of us just feel as if it sounds bad and some think it's great, just like the widely differing opinions of what's rice and what's not. I think it's safe to say it's not intended to sound like that or else it wouldn't change to a more "normal" sound after it warms up a little.

Yep, mine lasts about 30 seconds after a cold start. It's not so bad.

I've noticed that sound as well. I was showing off my G37 to a friend who has an 07 G35 and he asked about the exhaust sound. I started it up and it had that raspy sound for about 30 seconds or so. I wonder if it will go away with time?
