Is anyone interested getting Carbon driveshafts for our cars. G37s come with steel shafts from the factory, replacing with Carbon or Aluminium driveshafts have shown to minimize drivetrain losses.
Powertrain Industries is looking into it once they have specs of the driveshaft for the g37. They have done with G35 and gains have been around 30whp with FI, there are no dyno's on NA yet.
I believe they will get the specs and have ACPT manufacture this. Was told that price will be $1100 - 1400, turnaround time is about 2 weeks. Group by is possible with enough interest.

z1 motorsports is producing an aluminum one at half the weight vs. the stock one. I just emailed them to see if they are going to produce a carbon fiber version for safety reasons

 

the Aluminum is another option as well from z1. Weight reductions are almost same to Carbon I think and price is better.
From what I been told, Carbon has better handling vibrations, harmonics, better elastic memory and is few pounds lighter. I think there is someone who tried the Aluminum driveshaft, not sure what the end result was.

If someone can drive up to Powertrain Industries, they can measure the factory driveshaft, they're located in Garden Grove, CA.

 

^^^ remember though, if your CF drive shaft fails it unwinds and wont cause much damage, but if you have an aluminum drive shaft and it fails you have a XX pound sledge hammer banging up the bottom of your car. I would go Carbon fiber for safety reasons.

Thats what i meant for safety reasons. I feel like it would take a heck of a lot to break an aluminum drive shaft tho especially if im n/a with only a couple gains

 

why not make a drive shaft bracket?

 

u mean just like a safety loop in case an end lets go to keep it from swinging wildly?? If thats the case its not too difficult at all!

 

I think z1 is doing the carbon fiber drive shafts for much cheaper though.

 

one on each end or middle. something to catch if it breaks. hopefully not.

i'm not too familiar with how these (c/f & aluminum) shaft are made but if enough quality & testing is done with the aluminum in terms of balance & strenght then i would rather not pay extra $$ for c/f.

 

Wouldn't mind Aluminum groupbuy as long as we have some solid feedback on those. Carbon is another $500+ more but has shown to be good quality aftermarket part. Driveshafts for 370z, 350z and R35 are made with Carbon. G35 folks have experimented with Carbon made driveshafts and have positive feedback.
