ObsidianGT - new G owner. My dream come true!
I've loved the G ever since I first saw it back in the 90s in its sedan form as a G20. I've always admired Nissan from a performance perspective. Always drooling over the elusive beast the Skyline GT-R. My favorite was the R34, and the R35 is growing on me. I grew up playing Gran Turismo on my PS2 in high school, so this is like a dream come true to me as this is my first "nice" car (luxury or otherwise). But enough about that.
I cross-shopped with a 2008 STI Wagon. The STI feels like a bucket when you're inside of it. And even the new wagon still looks like a tragedy in the design department. But smooth lines isn't the reason to get an STI, is it? Although it had great power and handling, the G was able to keep up with it AND its classy and luxurious.
Well, as of last week I'm the proud owner of a new G37. Someone else ordered it direct from the factory in Japan and later recanted. I guess it takes nearly 4 months to get it stateside when ordered. Apparently, there are very, very few true "fully loaded" coupes. My new G's specs and options include:
Black Obsidian / Graphite Leather
Sport 6MT - only girls drive auto sport coupes -- bring on the flames!
Premium package
Navigation
Rear Spoiler
Technology package
4-wheel Active Steering
Illuminated Kick-plates
Splash Guards
Trunk Mat and Cargo Net
Dealer-chromed OEM Wheels (not my choice, but I'll admit they look great when paired with a black car)
I paid $42,008 (exactly $600 over invoice and zero added markup for the chrome wheels).
Plans for near future mods:
30% tint, clear bra (full hood; a "must" on black) -- any other recommendations?
Later in the future mods:
HFCs, intakes, Lightwurkz angel eyes, black grille.
Oddly enough, I've used the identity "ObsidianGT" since before high school. Weird. I guess it's fitting I'd end up with an Obsidian Skyline 370GT! I'm loving it! This is a great site, guys! Keep up the great community!

Nice car. Yours is almost a twin to mine. I bought the auto due to a knee injury in high school while playing soccer. I ordered mine and it took a little longer than 4 months to get it to my dealership. I am sure that you will love the car. I think the chrome wheels set the car off quite well. Can you get a closer pic of them? I'm interested in doing the same with my car.
Car looks great! Keep it up.

This can't be right. If it is then it is way under invoice.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the great feedback. I'm absolutely loving the car. I'm currently still in the 1K mile break-in period so I've been taking it easy. Although I'll admit I've gunned it once or twice, which isn't a big deal.
Last week I borrowed a dealer 2007 G35 automatic sedan while I had some minor details worked on my car (dealer paid for everything). I'll admit the automatics are VERY capable and lots of fun. They're also much easier to drive, of course. But despite that, I still prefer the manual tranny! Although, I would have easily gotten the same car even if it was only available in automatic.
The wheels were already chromed (presumably by the dealer?) and the dealer was asking $995.00 for them (a small white paper was stuck next to the sticker with the added markup). They've really grown on me, I think they look amazing. I'll post more pictures of the chrome later.
As for the price? Below is from my original research on Costco's Auto Program website. Cars.com, which I normally use, didn't have all the options listed. I offered them $600 over invoice (I was feeling generous.) Keep in mind these figures don't include the dealer's holdback earnings. I think it was a fair and reasonable deal (leaning towards the consumer, of course.) $42,000 still seems like a lot to me, but that's what happens when you add in over $8,000 in options on a car.
