Help - Whirring/Howling noise during initial driving
I'm new to the group but have owned my 2009 G37S for coming up on three years. The noise is rather odd and can best be described as a semi-constant whirring/whistling/howling when driving. The noise is proportional to vehicle speed, most notable around 40 mph, and only persist for about four minutes of driving, then it's gone entirely.
The noise is independent of gear or engine speed and seems to come from the region directly in front of the dash board, possibly the bell-housing. Is also present if coasting in neutral. I have dealt with wheel-bearing noise before and this seems to differ from that noise (although that would be the best of the problems since the old ones are still under warranty). I lifter the car and checked for play in the bearing as well as resistance to rotating and both seemed okay.
Some history, this is the 6MT with the Z1 mid-weight flywheel, their friction disk, and a Zspeed HD slave cylinder, all installed about three months back. The wheel bearings were replaced about 100k miles ago and the car has about 215k miles.
Is there anything in the bellhousing that could cause a noise like this? Noise is a bit difficult to track down having full exhaust and poly mounts throughout the vehicle; but it definitely seems to be from the front half of the vehicle.
I've been searching related posts but nothing seems to match my case. Any input is helpful. Thanks.
