Fluids Question
Hi All,
I recently took a 2010 G37X to the stealership to get some warranty work done (had a bad sway bar link), and Infiniti did the complementary inspection. I had a few questions on some of the items if you could help. Car was purchased with 55k and now has 78k
1.) In Cabin Microfilter - does this really need to be changed? Can I buy one online and install ? Any benefits here?
2.) Runability - the mentioned Fuel - Opt $194. Any idea what this might be?
3.) Coolant/Brake Fluid and PS fluid - after looking around is it a decent idea to just do a drain and refill on these items?
4.) Maint. 4x4 - $500 - any idea what this would be? I was thinking a drain and refill of the transfer case, but this seems awfully pricey.
5.) Brakes - the dealer wanted $400 to replace front pads and cut the rotors. I am thinking about doing this myself. I found genuine pads online for only $50 at a certified infiniti parts warehouse. I was hoping to get the rotors cut locally for ~20. Thoughts here? My biggest concern would be getting off a stuck rotor.
Thanks,
Jason

Probably would need to replace, simple 15 minute job, check the DIY folder on the site for how to. You can get carbon activated ones for under $20.
2.) Runability - the mentioned Fuel - Opt $194. Any idea what this might be? No idea as far as the terminology there. This might be a throttle body cleaning which is another pretty easy DIY, and again, in the DIY folder you can find the info.
3.) Coolant/Brake Fluid and PS fluid - after looking around is it a decent idea to just do a drain and refill on these items?
Coolant should be about ready for a flush, if you plan on keeping this for a long time or have other vehicles that you want to service I'd invest in this and just DIY.

4.) Maint. 4x4 - $500 - any idea what this would be? I was thinking a drain and refill of the transfer case, but this seems awfully pricey. Probably transfer case & differential fluid change, not sure on details as I have a RWD but surely not worth $500.
5.) Brakes - the dealer wanted $400 to replace front pads and cut the rotors. I am thinking about doing this myself. I found genuine pads online for only $50 at a certified infiniti parts warehouse. You probably wouldn't need to turn rotors unless they are gouged or have excessive run-out. A good clean w/ a scotchbrite pad w/ brake cleaner should suffice. Rotors should come off w/ a bit of rubber mallet motivation, if not, you can screw a bolt into the threaded hole in the rotor to help pry it out. There's DIYs on this in the DIY folder & youtube, not a hard DIY and just do your full brake flush at teh same time, get a quart of Dot4 synthetic.
And if you want to have your owners service guide, just click on this link, go to parent directory and select your year~and the index is at the bottom once you click your year.
