HELP! Evil SES Light and NYS Inspection
Hey myg37! Proud to be here. Bought a 2008 g37 coupe last Friday and super psyched to be an Infiniti owner.
So the car has 144k and has had the SES light on since the day I got it. The code that keeps coming up is P2A00. I got an oil change done, no change. Local mechanic said to try a fuel additive to clean the O2 filters and then reset the ECU, no change. They checked the sensors and said they looked fine and suggested a tune up. Got spark plugs, air filters and God knows what else today replaced for the low low price of $450. Oil change and additive were $50. ECU was reset again, drove the car less than 50 miles and less than 7 hours later the SES light is back on.
The fact that the SES light is on is keeping me from passing NYS inspection and I've been driving the car around for a week without inspection. I'm attempting to avoid the dealership because I'm already $500 in and who knows what the stealership will charge me. Should I replace the bank 1 sensor 1 O2 sensor? Should I take the car to a dealership? Should I drive it off a bridge?
It is with this predicament that I humbly ask myg37 for assistance, any ideas help! Thank you and again I'm really happy to be a member and an owner

They checked the sensors? This is what I dug up on possible causes:
Air Fuel Ratio (A/F) Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 1
- Air Fuel Ratio (A/F) Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 1 harness is open or shorted
- Air Fuel Ratio (A/F) Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 1 circuit poor electrical connection
- Fuel pressure
- Fuel injector
- Intake air leaks

oxygen sensors are covered under federal emissions warranty standards. look in your owners manual and it should state the heated oxygen sensor is either covered under 7/70 meaning 7 yrs or 70,000 or 8/80 meaning 8 years or 80,000 miles. since we don't know what is the mileage of your car and since you have already been taken for a ride by joe blow mechanic that fed you a load a crap on his upsell, all i have to say is good luck in getting everything resolved. a tune up and a oil change will not fix a emissions related fault code that you initially claimed. in addition unless your joe blow mechanic has some sort of xray or electron scan built into his eye socket i have no clue how he determined the oxygen sensor looked fine.

Why didn't you pay an Infiniti dealer to check the car out prior to purchase and deduct the cost of repair from the purchase price?

I would say go to autozone and buy the sensor. Have it replaced and see if that corrects the issue. If it does not then return the sensor. Autozone is pretty good about returns
