2011 G37 Bucking, Low idle, timing issues...
Hey guys, fairly new on this thread, did some searching but not too much luck so figured I'd start a new thread.
Car is a 2011 G37xs with 90K miles. Problem is bucking, erratic shifting, and a low weak idle with a check engine light. Sunday night the car was fine, Monday morning the problems were there (this happened last week). I'm not sure the codes as I brought the car to the dealer to have them diagnose, thinking it was something simple.
Dealer diagnosis is a loose cam gear, causing the timing to be "wayyyy" off. Since i'm also "wayyy out of warranty" according to the dealer, looks like i'm forced to pay the $3,000 bill myself. The problem is they only think this is the problem, said they're not 100 % sure until the front cover is off.
My question is have any of you other guys had this or heard of this problem? Also, would it be worth it to try Infiniti USA to try and get some help on this? Needless to say i'm disappointed with the reliability of my car, which was bought because I wanted something reliable after my last car (diff manufacturer) barely made it 120K miles.
Thanks for any advice. Nate

I haven't had quite the exact same issue, but at a dealership $3K to change timing chain, gears, tensioners is about correct. Almost 20 hours of billed labor. Once they're in there they'll be able to tell if that's the issue for sure. The cost is mostly labor not parts. I got stonewalled by Infiniti on any help with warranty. My issue is a well documented failure of a rear timing cover gasket in VQ engines. Good luck.
What codes triggered the light?

Yes the car was bought new, by me. I'm not quite sure on the codes as I brought it right to the dealer thinking it was something simple, sensor or what not. The were getting codes for misfire and timing problems i guess. The tech diagnosed for most of the day and was fairly certain he had it narrowed down to a loose timing gear. The said about $1200 in parts i believe, bulk of it was a new timing gear and front cover.
As far as second opinions, i've got a few calls out to local shops for quotes.

So I talked to the service manager. Codes shown were P0106, P0300 and P0021. Forgot to ask about oil pressure. I believe they said the oil pressure was good when I talked to them Friday but can't say for sure.
