Can I get my oil filter change elsewhere ?
Hi All,
I currently lease a g37x and it's time for an oil filter change. My dilemma is that in my area there are no infiniti dealers so it takes some time off work to get it done that's why I'm asking can I get my cars oil filter /oil changed elsewhere? It's leased through Infiniti / Nissan.
Thanks in advance
AJ

Stand and watch if you can
Check your oil both before and after

Take it some where you can trust. I watch the guys doing mine and I know it bugs them but I also tip REALLY good. They take really good care of my car when it goes in for an oil change. They know I am very **** about they way my car looks as well as I don't want oil spilled on the engine. I watch them poor the oil in, I always ask to see the old filter. I take them the filters as they don't carry the ones I like. Not every shop runs scams. The dealerships have their issues as well. You guys saw the video of what happened when a guy on here took his car in for an oil change to the dealership right? Dealerships won't let you in the back to watch what they are doing either. I want to see and watch. Even if its from just outside the garage door.

The Jiffy Lube video is real. I had a buddy have them change the tranmission fluid only to find out driving down three blocks it was empty and his tranny destroyed. I once had a truck and cant prove it but my differential went bad after they changed the fluid.
I am sure there are good ones but too many bad stories to share that people should avoid places like this.
Although as others mentioned go with someone you trust, an indy mechanic or crappy dealership mechanic could do the same damage through lack of skill.

Jiffy lube is a f*cking joke. If people had half a monkey's brain, they would have stopped going to jiffy lube a long time ago and put them out of business. Take it to an independent mechanic. If you don't have one, find one and start a good relationship with him/her. It will take you a long ways. Not just for oil changes but for eventual repair or maintenance in the future.
What's even better is that you should learn to do it yourself and get your self the equipment to do it. An oil change requires a jack, jack stands, a filter wrench, a set of sockets or combo wrenches and a drain pan. It sounds like a lot but it's a one time buy. It'll save you money on labor costs once you start DIYing and you'll be more in-tuned to your car because of it. Then you can provide advice on forums like this instead of asking for it all the time.
If all you do is lease, then that's a different story as you'll be getting a new car once your lease is up. But if you own, DIYing will save you thousands.
