Car does not start

I have a 2008 G37S Coupe 6MT, fully loaded. My car was driving perfectly fine for the past year and a half, then the other day I drove to a store, got out for a few minutes and went back to the car, tried to start it, and nothing.

It's not the battery because lights are bright, wipers move at normal speed, and I just got a new battery 7 months ago. I read about the TSB on the battery drainage issue, so just to be sure I returned the battery from where I bought it 7 months ago and got a brand new battery under warranty. Put that one in the car and got the same result.

When I turn the ignition (press the button) all I hear is one click, then nothing. No cranking, no turning over. I tried jumping the car, but no luck. I WAS able to push start the car, however, and after that it drove fine. Then I parked it at home and wasn't able to start the car again.

I'm thinking it may be related to the starter, because I only get one click when I push the ignition button? Anybody have any ideas on how to narrow down the problem?

If the battery is strong that means your battery and alternator are still working, you can try jump starting just to be 100% sure but my guess is it's not the issue.

Could be a starter or a distributor issue off the top of my head. These could be not receiving enough power (wiring issue) or just not functioning properly (hardware issue)

G37Sam, thanks for your input. I also think it may be the starter. I was hoping for suggestions to further isolate the problem. Is the starter something that would suddenly go completely out? I had no issues whatsover before this, and now suddenly a dead car.

It could just be a loose connection, without getting your hands dirty you'll never know

it is very possible that the starter just went out, if you can get at it, try tapping on the starter with a pry bar or hammer, dont be a wimp about it have someone trying to start it while your tapping on it, this is usually a quick way to check, but it doesnt always work.

Check your start button fuse, its located in the drivers side footwell. Had this happen to me it was the fuse that decided to blow, replaced it and all is well. If it was the starter you would hear the starter trying to engage, spin or grind, could be a loose connection to the starter. Like Sam said you'll never know without getting your hands dirty

take that starter off and go get it checked. If you're battery terminals are tight and you're s hearing the initial click, then that means everything is fine and your getting power down to the starter, but the starter isn't turning over.
