Key fob programming

Can key fobs be programmed anywhere or in any way other than at the dealership? How much does programming a new fob generally cost?

I believe that you can only get it done at the dealer. There was a thread a while back that said (if I remember correctly) $80 for the program and like $100 for the actual key on eBay or something like that. I believe that the number that was given if you just go to the dealer for both was $225.

I'm old and my memory ain't so good, but I think the thread was about a month ago.

I can get the key fob for itself for $40 to $50. $80 for programming it seems quite exorbitant but if it's the only game in town what you gonna do?

I'm guessing a Nissan dealership could program it as well couldn't they? I might have better luck with the price there because I have a Nissan dealer as a sponsor.

I would imagine a Nissan dealer would be more than capable of doing it. Same exact fob...different symbol on the top.

I go to autotransponder.com to get key fobs for most cars. I bought a 2009 key fob for my 2010. Its the exact same key. The price was 35.00 for the fob. I went to a Locksmith / Home security place where they sell everything that has to do with security like safes and stuff. They charged me 60.00 bucks for the programming of the fob. I saw the guy the do it and all he had was a Hand held progamming unit. He connected it to the car and took him like 5 min. Basically you just have to find a locksmith that can program key fobs. Hope this helps.

Nothing yet. It is relatively low priority. It is a second fob for my wife's G since he seller couldn't find it when the car was shipped to me. since I seldom drive it it's not something I've gotten around to checking out or doing yet.
